It was the 5 year old girl who shot her 18 month old brother in the back of the head mate. My thoghts are with the boy, and the rest of his family at this time.

It beggars belief really - that the lad is in hospital is a bad enough thing in itself, but when you also add to the mix that he is in hospital as a direct result of his father's negligence and irresponsibility  . . . well, i just don't know what to say? :(

At the very least, the father should get charged as he has committed an offence under the Firearms Act, 1997 [and subsequent ammendments] as he had abandoned the air rifle so as to answer the 'phone (thereby leaving the rifle AND the children, who were in the vacinity of the rifle, unsupervised) . . . . . unbelievable, to say the very least.

The father is, in my opinion, a knobber, to put it bluntly. :censored:

I shoot both an air rifle and a shotgun, and they are always without question in my gunsafe, where i know they cannot be gotten to. I have a son and a daughter and that is why they are never, ever, out of that safe unless they are in my hands and i'm about to take them out on a shoot.

The only exception to that rule is with my air rifle - i am learning my son to use my air rifle and when he is using it, it is always under my own direct supervision. After we have finished using it, it goes straight back under lock and key. Best way to be. Now, if i can ensure that this is always the case with my air rifle, then why can't that gonad of a father have done the same with his??? :censored:

Some people just don't deserve to have kids . . . . let alone air rifles as well!!!

Thank you kindly - rant over now.

Regards,

Grim.

PS: Sorry for going on in your thread mate

Well put mate.Im the same as you i find it unbelievable that someone who keeps guns would be so irresponsible.Especially where toddlers are concerned.Unless of course its just some young guy who dont shoot except in his garden :icon_eek: .I agree thouigh thoughts are with kid hope he pulls through

im not excusing the guy for his irresponsible actions that led to this but i think he's already got all the punishment he needs.... just the thought of this happening to my little lad breaks my heart.

yet again , a tragedy because of stupid people. never ever leave a LOADED AND COCKED gun lying around. I mean, if it was just loaded i can kind-of understand, but cocked too! It beggars belief. I hope that the youngster makes it and recoers well and that this will teach others not to make the same mistakes.....jD

I'm 100% with Pitandall on this one. I know it smacks of stupidity, and the Father is totally responsible for what has happened, but the man will have to live with this forever, not sure a court case is going to be of any benefit to anyone, least of all the shooting community.

If the little boy doesn't pull through, his father has a life sentence of his own making.

Thoughts and prayers with the little lad and his family.
