Also another point of this post was, i was 100% certian to get the XL Tac but now i realised how much it is for a 16 year old , so i was gonna go for a lower rifle but which is better than the meteor which i got, price of £250 at most, suggest what you can lads. the infamous nun 0
f your really getting seriously into airguns and needs something in a higher class pcp every time. IF your a noobie to airguns there are the 2 (well more) types spring guns- are powerful, quiet accurate , and you never have to refill them pcp - (precharged) are highly accurate, whisper quiet if fitted with a silencer and most have bolt action so no more time staking reloadin. Some even have rotary magazines where as you pull the bolt back the magazine cycles automatically. if you have about £300 to spend i would reccomend a spring rifle maybe the bsa lightning xl **but be careful the tactical stock is not meant to be too kind to left handers so wood might be the best. Or a weirnach such as a 95k of hw80 or you could pick up a nice Air arms Tx200 with kit for around £250 or the HW97k - these being at the higher end of the spring gun range. Remember if you think about buying a pcp you have to take into account some kind of charging kit such as a special pump or a divers bottle. this would cost you an extra £100-£150 if you buy nothing too exquisite. if you've got more money to spend or can save up for a bit longer pcp completly out paces spring rifles and once you get hooked or fire a pcp you regret buying a spring gun - although they are just as accurate in the right hands but my advice would be to get a pcp and strech your budget i can garentee it will pay off big_boss.gif big_boss.gif big_boss.gif and try this site www.airgunbuyer.co.uk Quote Link to post

You can get just as good results with a springer as with a PCP, if you know how to shoot properly. It does my head in when people come on here and wrongly slate spring guns as being vastly inferior to PCP's. Yes PCP's are easier to shoot than springers, but that's got nothing to do with the guns, it's the shooter. They both have their advantages & disadvantages. I grew up shooting my dad's HW35, and I'll tell you something, it can still shoot as well as the s410 that he's got now, I can't with any honesty say that the s410 will be preforming at the same level in 20 years time. I think that every airgunner should start off with a springer, It'll make you twice as good a shooter as you would be starting off with a PCP. It makes you think more about your shooting, there's more of a thought process involved, and if you intend to progress on to other forms of firearms, it gives you a head start with things such as recoil. pearcepestcontrol 1
I totally agree with you on this one. I shot a springer all my life from the age of 13. The last of which was the Air Arms TX200 SR, Awsome rifle, killed thousands of rabbits with it. My brother who is a game keeper up the country has just recently purchased the TX200 hunter carbine, he says its the best springer he ever fired and thanked me for my advice. The only reason i changed to a Precharged was the weight issue, i like a bit of weight in a rifle makes it easier to hold, but i just got tired of lumping around a heavy rifle and up to 20 rabbits on a good night out with the lamp. Also sitting quietly in a hide waiting for woodies, having to release the spring every 20 mins was a nightmare, the birds always came to the decoys as i was reloading, at least with the precharged rifle i can keep it loaded indefinatly. Todays spring powered rifles are so dam accurate and consistent it makes sence to use them , i would still have mine if i was 20 years younger. Quote Link to post
Sgt.McMuffin 0
more importantly, i don't want a PCP gun, i'm a springer all the way. Quote Link to post

kristian 9
my mate has a bsa lightning and its a nice little gun i have just bought a bsa s10 and although a little heavy it's a beast i still have my springer just for those times when i run out of air i've always got the springer to fall back on. Even though i way prefer the pcp's the springers are so much less hassle. Quote Link to post
