Paul in North Lincs 15
its good for getting your dogs fit and muscled up as the compound excercise of walking on a hard surface as aposed to soft grass makes the muscles grow and strengthen...............also the tendons, feet, pads also toughen, allowing for better performance on rough terraine Quote Link to post

lurchergrrl 1,441
What Paul said ... but also, I think road walking is important for a steady temperment. Getting dogs used to people, kids, traffic, loud noises and responding to you while on lead adds to all around steadiness in my opinion Quote Link to post

Guest little lurcher
dont overwork a 9mth old , this will lead to tendon and bone problems later and higher risk of injury in field, a good varied selection of road then grass or sand will help firm everything without causing undue stress , good luck Quote Link to post

You needn't overwork the pup, as Litterlurcher says, but the dog will get more benefit out of a good steady pace - which usually means you get a bit of benefit from it too Quote Link to post
sighthound1811 6
i tend to road walk mine about twice a week for 5 or 6 miles an the rest of the time there on grass(of sorts) running...but during the summer months they get road walked quite a lot an get off to run about the playin fields to burn off any excess energy an stretch the legs..good luck with your pup..cheers chris Quote Link to post

Makes her alot steadier (getting used to traffic noise etc), but also muscles her up in areas where grass walking/running doesn't have such a great effect - particularly on back legs/hind quarters. Do it, and I think you'll reap rewards. Quote Link to post
