Tail Docking Procedure

Recommended Posts

Nothing worse than a tail docked too short.......

...........exept for 1 not docked at all [borders excluded]............Carreg

Basically ,just over an inch from the body.Cut cleanly with scissors. What I like to do is pull the skin down towards the tail and feel with your thumb nail for a bone joint .Try to cut between these joints and let the surplus skin you pulled back release over the cut.As a precaution you could spray with purple disenfectant or dip in dilute dettol. If in doubt ,ask someone whos done the procedure to show you .

if i were u and u have never docked a tail before get someone to do it four you it is no big deal ...

It might not be but the law states that tails must be docked by a qualified person, if someone make s a mess and you end up having to take the pup to the vets, you are in deep stuck explaining how it happened -

I recently had my first litter and took them to a mate. He put a 10pence piece against the tail starting at the body and cut it there. I've never seen a dog being docked before and really couldn't believe what all the fuss is about, the tiniest whine then straight back to their mother who cleaned them up, what little there was to clean up anyway.
