i think it does come natural but helps to see another 1 work nothing better to see a good terrier hunt mine have a bit of spaniel in them and use there nose well what do you think is the best lurcher to work with them i would say a wippet x at the moment i got a 3/4 saluki 1/4 grey not ideal but need it for other stuff also wanted bit of alrounder but got a good team comeing together slowly

I love to see a good bobery pack working together, me and whippet boy have got a 21" Lurcher, 26" Lurcher, a Border and a Border Lakeland between us , work them alltogether regular and oftern get double figure rabbits just bushing (Great Sport). After a while the Lurchers seem to know where the rabbit will bolt from and the two terriers work very well together.

Thinking of adding another couple of Terriers to our little pack but not sure what to get that will pack good with the others and keep the pack together, Whippet boy had another Border which was KC but it just took off and did its own thing, dont want another one like that i like the sound of a bit of spaniel like.

mine is 1/4 cocker spaniel a good breed is cocker / patterdale i think patterdales are brilliant allrounders excellent bush dogs

do the terriers have much or mostly flush to lurchers also do you find the 26inch lurcher to big for bushing or ok

a bit of hound is better than a bit of spaniel :whistling:

when i was a kid me , my brother and a friend had a small bobbery pack, two lurchers, and 3 terriers and a spaniel......the spaniel never got into the deepest cover like the terriers. we did catch loads of rabbits and other things, the terriers catching the majority in the cover!

I now have a teckel cross border terrier, she is better than my cocker spaniel in cover, and is better than the 3 terriers and spaniel we had as kids.......i want a teckel dog hound now!

a teckel or beagle or hybrid is the way forward

BigDan, my 26" Lurcher is ok but a little big for bushing, but i also do alot of fell work so he is ideal for a day up there, if i was to get a Lurcher just for bushing alongside Terriers i would use a Whippet x Greyhound as a catch dog only as the Terriers will be doing the thick work.

The Spaniel/Terrier and Teckle/Terrier sound ideal crosses to me, i like the idea of a beagle cross but are they not a bit big for thick bramble work, the other thing is they get a bad press on trainability and control, what do you think Compo.

what we keep is a small pack of fell type terriers we have just breed from them if we need more and start running the pups with the adults from about 9 monthes old dont give them earth work until they are 14-15 months old the lurchers we use are bull/whippet/greyhound of or own stuff and i am running a bull/greyhound dog who catchs alot but at 25 inches is a bit big for the bush work we do as for the houndxterrier for bush work have seen these work and they work well but need to be used more in a rural setting as we hunt round the houses and in town we need terriers that are fairly biddable

I haven't witnessed beagle crosses working cover, i have seen a fair few though, a friend of my uncles has a few in Yorkshire somewhere, they are apparently fecking ugly but very handy and game, accounting for foxes, i have met some other lads who have beagle x JRT for bushing (one of the plumbers who fitted my bathroom has one :clapper: ) , have been out with a pack of beagles........they are Hounds and a half cross may still be very houndish

I reckon it would be down to the individual dog, the owner , how the owner wanted it to work, and a few other variables as to whether the beagle cross would be the best or the worst of dogs for bushing!

Compo, how do you find your Teckle x Border (got any pics) do you know if they pack well together as i might be looking to add 2 more bushing dogs to our pack and have seen some good Teckles about lately but i like the sounds of that cross even better.

i had a 3/4 wippet 1/4 bedlington i sold to foxy jo of this site i wish i kept her but at the time i needed the room i got my saluki x but am looking for a nother small lurcher wippet x i think a wippet x grey sounds good

so whos got what for bushing and how are you getting on with it i had six rabbits in the week in 1 aftrnoon and yesterday just 2 but thats just with the terriers a lot more were flushed the pup [saluki] made chase but by the time he got speed up they bolted into another bush so i do need a fast wippety thing

she is very teckel like, just slightly longer legs

Teckels pack well together, they are used in a pack in this country and i am finding more and more people who have small bobbery packs that include teckels and teckel hybrids

I am hoping and trying to get a teckel dog hound to add to my little pack (the teckel x and a spaniel) as i really like them and their personality and the type of rough shooting i do suits a small hound/small pack
