Right then my mother has a german shephard dog he's 20months old and has been owned by my mum since 8 wks old! The problem is as he's getting older he is getting very protective over my mother and has snapped for me and my brother when we've gone in the house and she's afraid he's going to attack someone? he will not be going to any home he needs to be a gaurd dog or working at something to keep him focused. He's a pedigree dog with papers. The police have been out to see him to see if he could be trainned as a police dog but they took him out and said he's not aggresive enough  she doesn't know what else to do with him? Shes tried contacting the breeder but they have not replied to any emails. If anyone can help please p.m me. Thanks, Kristian.

Hi Kristian,

Personally I would not rehome a dog with these character traits, a guard dog should be controlled and focused, not a set of teeth on a chain. At some point, this dog will bite someone (possibly a child) and personally I couldn't live with my concience if i'd rehomed it. If your mum wants to keep the dog I suggest contacting a good trainer and working through the dogs behaviour which sounds like a possible dominance issue.

i totally agree simonam

it is my mothers dog, kristian is my brother, we have tried to get her to have him pts, but she wont have any of it, we wont even go to the house while he is there, he has spent 3 weeks with a trainer but i think there is something seriously lacking with him, i have heard he has gone for my mother twice yesterday, am contemplating taking the dog from there myself and doing the right thing but he wont let me anywhere near him,

am going to plead with our mother to do the right thing,

it is only a matter of time he is a big strongf fecker too

any suggestions?

Tim

The police look for confident dogs which can be trained to target specific things: out and out agression is not the be all and end all, but this dog sounds as though it may be a bully boy with no real balls to back up its attitude: just dodgy with a soft target: ie kids and its owner.

Like Simoman said, it sounds as though this dog thinks it is the boss of everyone, including its owner: very dangerous situation.
