Guest smashygadge Posted August 24, 2008 Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 no probs mate the problem with most is people give the dogs a few runs and they are eather what they want or they move them on some dogs are amazing and seem fast as but when they get on a track wont do the bizz or you can get a dog that fights or is a bad boxer or some just aint keen along side other dogs there could be a million explanations . the main prob with racing is that its very very easy to get an injury hit a hair rail or what not. i think it could of been the boxing in the traps cause when i first got her she used to be petrified of metel sound of gates opening so i was thinking the traps.but she is one hard dog now well pleased Quote Link to post Share on other sites
kreet 0 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 could have been in them then. there are so many reasons people get rid of them its unreal iv seen boys get rid of pups just because they brought to many over or they will get a deal with half a dozen dogs just to get sertain ones then re home the rest without even schooling them . the majority of whitch aint even been on a leash now they need some work i can tell you trust building takes a long time with alot of them. Paul in North Lincs 15 Posted August 25, 2008 Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 id like to add to my post if you have the room give one off these dogs a try.ive noticed alot of people intrested ,but they need to go for it . they make great companions for any lurcher and most need some quality in their life instead of heading to the pound or pts .you wont regret it .if i had the room id take them all Smashy..............you may recalled I enquired about an ex racer that I was considering rehoming last week. After much thought I collected him on Sat...Having checked his form on ther internet.....he was racing upto June 07, had 31 races won 6....had loads of 2nds and thirds, but guessing that he just didnt cut it. Anyway, Im not interested in racing and took him on...he a really steady boy of 28" tts....... kids love him....ands kennelled without a wimper. The last owner had him on a lead for 9 months for fear of him running off......within 2 hours of him being with me an my other lurcher I took him out and was confident he wasnt 'flighty' and wouldnt go far. We took over back fields..he had a gallop on s bunny he spotted about 40 yards away...... man.....I was amazed at how quick he kicked off from a standing start......... much quicker than any lurcher I've had............but that aint suprising. After a minute or two of trying to drive the rabbit from cover..he trotted back to me........lovely I've had him running free for 3 days with my other lurcher, and although he is not responsive to recall himself...he follows the other one when I command her..so he'll pick it up that way. We work alot of farms on the trents flat valley.......so if I can get his fittness and recall upto scratch, I think he'll fair OK I'll post up some pctures soon Quote Link to post Share on other sites
kreet 0 Posted August 25, 2008 Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 sounds like you will be fine with him paul im like your self alot of people keep a dog on a leash but if you are in the right place there is nothing better than giving the dog a bit space to run and once they know you and know when they have had there run to come back then they are a gem i used to have a black bitch who done not bad on the track she used to walk to heal of the leash and wouldnt go to other dogs or that if she did chase a rabit and catch it she would stand with it till i went to her or later she started bringing them back she even had a fox one night she was a delight to own and i kept her till she died i was about 16 when she did i got her when i was 8 and she was around 4 when i got her . good luck with the dog and look forward to seing piks of him . miss lurcher bitch 319 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 its a shame so many greyhounds go to waste as some are really good dogs thay have such a shit life just used for raceing then tossed over to some one else as trainers just out for money i have even seen some in poor condion and taken some in and rehomed them i ad 1 here and it took us 6 hours to get 24 ticks out of her and she was just shut in a kennel until it was time to race some trainers make me so mad its just like the lurcher world going the same way but theres good and bad every were i gess all the best with the greys mlb Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Guest smashygadge Posted September 11, 2008 Report Share Posted September 11, 2008 gotto agree their mlb .my white one had her a few month now .but she was more smelly yellow colour upon getting her .her frame more like a skeleton,still trying to get some muscle in their but going to take time.coverd in scares and dropped of miles from home in the middle of nowhere.i think it was that or she would of been dumped anyway.and very dissapionting the way the trainers see them. she is coming on now Quote Link to post Share on other sites
