Guest LEARNER
WELL, i,ve just got in from a early walk about with the pup, i,ve read and seen the news about 4 lads being picked up for running hares, now out off all the hunts that went off that day, who gets lifted these 4 lads, now i,ve been told over the last few weeks , by men who run thier dogs on the fens and such ,that there will be ways to get around this new law, NO CHANCE, its over with , unless the conservatives get in and reverse it , its finished, you see the public enemy now is joe public, people who have spent most off thier lives , taking no notice off the hares being run by dogs ,are going to be burning thier mobiles and public phones out by the hundreds to shop you, you see thats one thing with human nature ,every one wants to be a hero, now the law will make this so, and it also proves what i,ve been thinking ,the police are going to be a lot keener to get the coursing guys, more so than the hunts, because its easier , i believe in my heart that when the saluki x greyhound came into the fore on hares ,and worst still the gangs that followed after, fxcked the sport up for good , you see it was on the tele a lot in the news papers a lot ,it was not just ythe chasing off the hare it was the damage to property ,and threats to farmers and such that brought it to the public notice ,not the guy who for generations ,who went out to get the hare for the pot , not the guy who owned a lurcher that in most chases never had a chance with the hare on its own terms ,not the guy who kept himself to hisself , not the guy who had to hunt the hare by craft , not the guy who hunted with the respect off his quarry ,but i,m afraid the men who turned this unnoticed one for the pot game ,into a money or gambling sport ,thats when to me all respect as the hare as a sporting quarry went to the ashes off reasoning, i,m sorry its all ended like this , and i,m sorry for the lads being made the scrapegoats ,but i could see this coming years ago, i wrote to the EDRD, about my fears and what the outcome would be, but they decided not to print it, i still believe in live and let live ,but also i believe if the hare had been hunted in the secretive manner i knew, we still might have got away with it ,by only being fined for having no game licence , perhaps most will not agree with me ,but there,s one more thing to say ,the saluki xgreyhound days are numbered, this breed to me as never been a lurcher ,just a longdog, and a specealist at that, i hope i,m wrong and will be proven wrong, but this is the truth how i see it, and i would sooner speak what i believe than be a creeping liar ,so we could all be buddies together, best the devil you know ,than the devil you do,nt. IanB 0
Yes it will be hard learner, there will be fines and tears, maybe dogs confiscated...but there will be people out there who will carry on regardless, keeping there line of dogs alive and working them, maybe not in the way they have done in the past so blatantly, but there will be people whos hearts belong to it, that nothing else can come close too...these are the ones that will keep them working and the lines alive.... Shame its came to this, but its the people and the country we live in that wants it, people who will never understand what it means to us.. Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. Freedom is something people take, and people are as free as they want to be. Quote Link to post
Guest bracken boy
my own view is its the fox being hunted with a pack of dogs and then killing it that upsets most non hunting people not the lurcherman hunting hare but u cant ban just the 1 so yes its gunna b tougher now, best to check the area u use and b lucky out there.. bb. burnie69 376
Nice post learner 100% with you on it.No disrespect to any coursing lads out there because i'm one or should i say was one and i know alot of em out there but the gambling side of coursing f--ked it up in coursing the limits was pushed and taken the piss off as i say that's my views and i'm entitled to em.When people are selling video's of dogs catching hares holding em up for the camera and throwing into the dyke is bad footage in the wrong hands. happy hunting Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Those 4 fella,s have got their dogs and motors back, and are gonna be prosecuted, apparently it was very early morning[4 am] they had 4 dogs, a dead hare, and an over the limit air rifle in the same car, come on, i ask you  no one has ever seen me taking rabbits, hares etc, because i,ve always been carefull, even on permission, as my fatha always says "theres a suttle difference, between farting, and riving thi arse lad"i think youre right about the saluki x, remember, if youre gonna bring hares off the land, make sure they have a bullet hole in them, or go back for them, it just takes a bit of caution  Quote Link to post
Tarmac 1
good post learner, maybe now that hunting has been banned that we shall go back to the old ways, the true old style poaching, clever and cunning planes to avoid capture.... Quote Link to post
hedgesteeper 2
the lacs as always hated coursing and told the lies about them been released from boxes in enclosed fields [no chance of escape] and shit sticks, then you hear of gangs on the fens running around in 4x4's yobs threatening farmers etc, and then the coursing club saying it's nothing to do with hare control just sport ! So the most beautiful and fairest of all sports was f****d same as stag hunting, the general public is dictated by the press we are all guilty of it , we were even f****d on the licenced hunting Just gotta keep your head down and be sensible Quote Link to post
Guest LEARNER
I WISH I WAS WRONG, I WISH IT WOULD ALL GO AWAY, I WISH THE GENUINE SALUKI GREYHOUND LADS ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD, AS FOR CREEPING ABOUT THE FIELDS ,LIKE IN TTHE OLD DAYS THIS WILL BE SO MUCH HARDER ,WITH ALL THE TECHNOLOGY AROUND, ESPECIALLY IN BUILT UP AREA,S , LIKE THE BOOK SAYS EVERYONE,S HAND WILL BE AGAINST YOU, EVEN THE FARMER,S WILL BE THAT AFRAID OFF THE LAW ,THEY WILL TRY AND KEEP YPU OFF ,OR PHONE THE POLICE, BUT AT LEAST THERE ARE SOME PLACES YOU CAN DO WHATS NATURAL, AND I AS ONE WILL EXPLOIT IT TO THE FULL, P.S OUT THIS MORNING AND LAST NIGHT, WON,T THE FXCKERS LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I DID. smallmouth 1
They were always after the formal hare coursing. My copy of the Standfast Coursing book was published in 1976, and includes a chapter titled “Coursing as a fieldsport under attack”. In it there’s an account of the failure of the previous years private members bill, which was 30 years ago. The expression I was brought up with was “don’t be doing it too brown”. I’ve seen a few decent bits of what I call “toleration” lost, because of a few not just doing too brown, but virtually burning it black. And like baldie, I’ve never paraded quarry off the field in full view, even off the bit of permission I once had. When I used to go beating and took part payment in Pheasants, I didn’t display them for the benefit of the neighbours either. I hung and prepared them discreetly in the garage……….just as I butchered my pups first Hare the other day, in the shed, away from prying eyes. That’s how it is when you live in town with close neighbours. Quote Link to post

badger 91
you boys ought to get your passports in order and come to the u.s. where there are still places bigger than your whole country that you can run your dogs on. We let thousands of illegal immigrants in each year, a few english speaking persons could pass almost immediately as pseudo-citizens, lol. besides, the women here love your accents, sugar mommas are a dime a dozen Quote Link to post
shaun v 3
with abit of luck most of the people who has f****d about with coursing just for the sake of it or because there mate has a dog will move onto something else. esp after they dish some big fines out. when i started going to the fens about 17yrs back you hardly saw a sole now you are falling over people :realmad:. so hopefully it will be back to the way it was , going to places where we can get our runs alot quicker as they are been aloud to breed through the summer months without idiots killing off the leverrets, the same sort of people that is running them in a foot of snow [bANNED TEXT] now, fooling them selves that there dog can kill a winter hare Quote Link to post
