neil cooney 10,416
Oh but Adam, we now have chub in the Inny. Personally I think the Grayling and Zander would have too much of an impact on our native fauna. But Barbel ? I can't see where they would get in trouble. Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
JD, you lucky bugger, we dont have barble in the rivers round here, not the free bits anyway. Not ever having caught one i wouldnt know what they fight like, is it as good as folk say? if they fight half as hard as river carp then i know why folk persue them. What lb test curve was the rod? good fishing Quote Link to post

But Barbel ? I can't see where they would get in trouble. Definately not zander, never had a chance to fish for them but would have liked too, but would decimate trout stocks in the waters. Watch a cook on the wild side with hugh. Locals catch em and hoof em over the hedge. lovely looking fish though. Miss out on chub loads since I moved over, great fish to catch, and stalk on small rivers. Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
The river Inny's in Westmeath. English anglers put chub in that they brought over as pike bait. As far as I know the fisheries board is electro fishing the chub. Quote Link to post

What lb test curve was the rod? good fishing The rod was 2 3/4 lb TC, but i had the lighter tip in Get yourself up next year for a weekend and i will try my best to get you a barbel. Theres a good chance, but nothing garenteed though........ 12lb line to a 12 lb braided bottom, and a whole 6 oz of lead When i hooked that critter it was like being attatched to the back of a speedboat. I just couldnt stop it!! The downstream run was unstoppable. i just clung on and tried to avoid getting in the near side bushes. I know that some wouldnt beleive me, being on 12 lb line, but its true....... just bought some new tackle , thought a tub was a "glug pot" so put my Halibut oil in it. however, it seems not be the case, now leaked over my laminate flooring.!! smells nice!!
