nasher 1 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 i have a staff and she had knocked her dew claw in the cage 3 days ago and began to bleed treated it with some nu stock and wound spray went down was ok untill this morning as it had swollen up again i noticed it was broke and have removed the nail and applied some more cream is there anything else i can put on the dog and save a trip to the vets??? AKA-BRINDLE 879 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 Both mine have ripped dew claws off a few times...i put NOTHING on the wound the dog will keep it clean itself with obsessive licking...so little point putting any creams ect on it...the reason why it swelled back up again was because the nail was still catching and irritateing it now you have pulled it off no more problem...the claw usually grows back...sounds an obvious thing to say but i bought myself a good quality pair of nail clippers and keep the dew claws as short as is possible...all the best Quote Link to post Share on other sites
nasher 1 Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 thanks for the fast replys and hello brindle she has been licking it like mad before i ripped it out and had to have her muzzled wasnt gona risk losing my face not sure if you have spoke to gary lately should have a litter on the ground next week outta the brindle bitch and caine cant wait it was the skitty jocko bitch that caught her claw always keep them short shes just full on all the time and the missus is giving me an ultimatum to get rid of her due to various altercations with her dogs Quote Link to post Share on other sites
labsnlurchers 39 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 if i were you i would use cool boiled salt water to bathe it and you could do with stopping her going mad and licking it, my mrs used to work in a vets and she rekons you need to put a sock on her foot, just a normal human sock will do and tape it above and below the claw. make sure you bathe it in cool boiled salt water every day at least once and also if she still licks it through the sock then get some ground rosmary and put some on the sock that'll stop the licking.........let me know how it goes mate.
