bunks 4 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Share Posted August 20, 2008 i have a patterdale cross fell who is only one year old,i had her out a few times with a older dog,she is going to ground when ive got her out by herself in old fox holes but as this is my first terrier im wondering how to keep her keen and to see if she nows what she is looking for... Guest fell terrier Posted August 20, 2008 Report Share Posted August 20, 2008 just keep trying holes mate and praising it every time it go s to ground one day you will drop lucky once the weather turns you have a good chance of finding one in all the best just be patient with it many a good dog has been spoilt by rushing you will get a good few seasons from a dog that has been entered correctly Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Share Posted August 20, 2008 Thats good advice Fell Terrier. At one year old your terrier is still a baby. Don't over do the praise as you might be un-knowingly encouraging your terrier to false mark or mark rabbits etc. My advice would be to use the older terrier while still on the couple to tell you wether someone is home or not and then try your youngster. Try and pick somewhere handy and the perfect result would be a bolt with your youngster close behind. So approach your earths quietly. Keep him keen and one step at a time. Early success will stay in your terriers mind and so will early mistakes. Quote Link to post
