john b 38
Now I know that the idea of slug traps / beer traps is not a new one and I've done the 'bury a tub in the soil and cover it' thing before. However today I discovered a twist on this which is new to me so if you guys have as many slugs as I have I thought it worth sharing. Over the weekend I knocked up a quick 'pop bottle wasp trap' to tackle a few that were buzzing about while we were having a slightly damp BBQ. This is a basic funnel trap made by cutting a bottle into two and stuffing the top back inside and you put an inch or two of water & fruit juice in the bottom. Anyway during the night it blew off the table a lay there through the next couple of wet days. This morning I noticed it was working very well as a slug catcher - even without any beer bait in it. They crawl in up the 'ramp' and then get stuck inside, just like a lobster pot. Off to make a few more now
Malt 379
I'll have to try that JB! Another good 'bait' for a wasp trap, is vinegar & sugar, about a half cup of each. I put some down around the ferret court as fly traps, but you wouldn't believe the amount of wasps I caught in a few days.

neil cooney 10,416
Every morning when feeding my chickens there's plenty of suicidal slugs drowned in their water cups and since finding out the hard way about lung worm (slug worm) I'm anti-slug. But another thing I see whilst feeding the fowl amazes me. The feed barrell is over two foot tall and has a lid with a lip on it that rain water collects in. After a nights rain how the hell does there be small earth worms lieing on the lid of the barrell? This has me wondering.
