Squirrel_Basher 17,100
is ther any chance of the ferrets catching anything of the rats .....like whees diseas or wit ever its called... and weres the best place to find the rats a dump ur sumthing You don't appear to be listening mate.Don't use ferrets on rats, you will get them injured and feck them up for rabbiting. You appear to have read too many plummer books and not done much ratting with ferrets .I used to ferret the feckers a lot and personally believe its the best form of dog /ferret combination there is .No ferret has ever been spoilt for rabbitting that i have owned nor have i lost them through bites ,attacks .Drains and concrete claim more lost ferrets than rats ever will .What i have found is that some ferrets will stick to the job for many seasons whilst some do a season or so and jib ,just like dogs there are doers and jackers .Breed from the doers and cull the shite .Its not rocket science but still prople find it hard to take in . Makes me smile to read posts that advise when the adviser is obviously not up to the job . Quote Link to post

I can assure you mate that I have done more ratting with ferrets than most. When I grew up I realized that it wasn't all that pleasant for the ferret. When one of my ferrets lost an eye I was a bit upset to say the least. So now when someone asks about ratting with ferrets I feel qualified to say BAD IDEA. I am very pleased that you people in favor of it have been so fortunate but your unlucky day is just around the corner. A smoker and dogs is the only way to have some great fun with rats.Rats can make a mess of a good ratting terriers face in a very short time.I am talking about killing hundreds not 1 or 2. I hope your good luck stays with you. By the way I've never read a Plummer book in my life but I've heard he was also a bit of a w***er. Quote Link to post

Guest ferretlad
I have worked my ferrets to rats when i was younger and it was alright, I must of been luck tho, as i only only got the usual bit injury's to their heads, but i prefer ratting with my terrier these days, I find it more fun for me anyway. Rubbish Tips ,lakes anywhere there is foul or birds which are fed ,animalfeeds about etc Best places I have found for rats is battery hen houses just as they are empty of hens and ready for cleaning bloody hundreds.Pig pens and anywhere farmers keep lose feed some are more untidy than others.Dirty old streams near farm buildings are good, fishing lakes hold a good few but are hard to catch as they take to the water but good fun with a lot of dogs. Yes you can lose a terrier to fox but what is the alternative? you can't smoke them out! Good hunting mate. Quote Link to post
