borderland 0
Discussion is fine here and welcomed but because I know how these interventions can develop I won't tolerate any infighting between hunters here. Everyones entitled to their opinion and to persue their sport their own way Just a word to the wise just expressing my opinion. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think it takes a lot of skill to train a dog and then work that dog right to hunt a fox. I couldn't do it, I don't have the skill. However, you dog folks need to respect us rifle people too - if you think it's easy to knock over a fox at 300 yards, especially at night, well, you come out and do it then - it's really not. SportingShooter 0
My opinion. Having never seen a Dog run anything I cannot comment on the abilities of said Animals, but I know an awful lot of people that Do use them and respect their great skill in training them to do what they were bred for. I Do shoot, Always have done, and I can never see myself becoming a Long dog man. Doesn't appeal to me but I still respect it and don't remark about my shooting of foxes in the Dog sections as it would cause aggravation, which I do not wish to cause. I respect all hunters be they with Dogs, Guns, Hawks or Catapults! The skill with a rifle needs to be honed, to cover range, quarry, bullet placements and Safety. A rifleman needs to decide if he can satisfy all of those if he is to fire. And then he has to hit his target! Much the same as a Lurcherman knowing when to slip. I think to avoid further comments and to prevent any infighting, sections should be kept specific. Keep shooting about shooting and Dogs about dogs. Just My Opinion. Regards SS Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Then could you inform us of your meaning then please I believe the only true for of hunting is with dogs. Shooting something with a rifle is something [NO TEXT TALK] could do, them things are so fine tuned an amimal at 300 yards looks like its right beside you.Whereas when you go out with a dog the quarry has a much better chance and you have to pit your wits against nature. Thats hunting in my eyes. Here we go again..I seldom notice shooters slagging off the dog boys so can you dog boys please have some respect for the skills of shooters. Despite the common misconseption it is not easy to shoot a fox, at distance and at night..this is not the movies, it is real life and the movies are not!! If you do not like it then stay in the dog sections! I simply do not understand this sort of senseless post. I have a lot of time for dogs, ferrets, birds, mole catchers, etc; I have called on their services; as they have called on mine...what is the point of slagging off another hunting area....I can but think this posts by a complete anti, not a true dog person, and simply designed to cause arguement amongst the hunting community! davyt63 1,845
doesnt even seem like hunting to me looking through a set of crosshairs and pulling a trigger What does it seem like so?? Eh, there is a BIT of skill involved!!! Lamping foxes is an effective method of fox control. I don't know much about hunting with dogs so I won't make comments good nor bad about it. I could say its cruel and takes the fox a long time to die, but I honestly don't know. All I know is slapping a fox with a .223 and its game over, if you do your part right he's dead before he hits the ground. WELL SAID THAT MAN Quote Link to post
