Coatesy900 0
Had a ferret escape today. I had him in the run which was yet to be completely ferret-proofed, but as it was in a garage (which was ferret-proof) I thought it wouldn't hurt to let the two new kits have a run about for a few hours. Obviously they had escaped the run within an hour when I came back to check on them. One of them was easily found asleep between a compost bag and a bin, and the other was no where to be found. After putting the first one back in its cage to finish sleeping and not bother me while I was searching for the other, I turned the whole garage upside down to try and find it. Eventually, I noticed the wind was blowing the big garage door open and shut about 3-4 inches. The catch was not down, and as I had entered through a side door, the big one had not been shut properly all day. That was when I realised that the bugger was in fact out in the wide world. I spent the next 2 hours searching the area, knocking on neighbors doors etc and one of my neighbors had seen it in his garden under a canoe about an hour before. He had tried to catch it but it ran off apparently. I finally gave up looking and was absolutly gutted. It got to about half an hour after I'd stopped before I went out again. Still no ferret any where, so I set up an old box rabbit trap with some bacon as bait. The fact that it had been used before, and smelt like rabbit might have helped too, but sure enough, within 2 hours it had caught it. I had gotten extremely lucky, and until the run had been ferret proofed, they are staying in their cage. Quote Link to post
