yorkshirelad2 24
I am getting a lurcher pup in a couple of weeks. I use to have a bull cross but got him off some travellers (big mistake) they had run him too hard and was not interested in anything i gave him to a woman as a pet. And am now wanting to bring one on as a pup. There is someone in notts that is selling some saluki greys any advise would be great on what the first thing you do when getting a pup. I am going to buy some books and get some advice at the chatsworth game fair. But any info on here would be welcomed. Quote Link to post

Lennard 10
First...check if you can tune your life to a pup. Do you have an idea of the work and time involved to get a well socialized and trained dog. Get some good books and read around on the net. Some advice: be patient, calm and sweet. Don't hit it when it pisses you off. Smile when you step in dog pee for a few months. Get up early. Work on socializing, house breaking and being left alone from the first week. Don't overrun it or do things to early. L Quote Link to post

billybear 32
i found that taking them out with a tennis ball or a puppy dummy really helps with the bonding process quality time with you and the dog make sure this is done in little spells always keep them wanting more 3 or 4 runs with ball or dummy is all they must have in a day. never let them play with that ball unless you are wanting the retrieve because it will turn into his ball and it should be a game that will get him retriving to you perfectly and if he starts running past you with it which he will then stand with your back against a wall that will stop him going past you. Good luck mate if you enjoy it half as much as your dog will then you in for some fun Quote Link to post
