ultimathule 29
Hi. Just wondering do you guys feed once a day for young ferrets and if so how much is enough? Im getting three youngsters at 10wks and want to make sure I am feeding enuf and not overdoing it either? If putting rabbit to them,is it completely whole with fur, ungutted the lot or do I just gut and skin it? How long would one rabbit do 3 ferrets? Sorry for all the questions, the book I got dont cover this in much detail at all:( Cheers Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
Im putting in a gutted rabbit for 6 ferrets so i reckon you will get threw 1/2 a rabbit a day i gut them then freeze them then its just a case of taking them out the night before to defrost . Ive got a hob kitt here for somebody on the site and ive found its easier to halve any young rabbits we get and freeze a half section in a polybag Quote Link to post
ultimathule 29
Cheers. Is the gutted rabbit skinned also? I would have thought so,but sure I've heard some throw in with fur on? Quote Link to post
diggermad 154
no mate leave the fur on how did you get the rabbit was it ferreted or shot if shot i would remove the fur and you can see where the lead shot went in and remove it if otherwise i would leave the fur on cheers Quote Link to post
Coatesy900 0
Although I havn't had much chance to feed rabbit yet, the few (four... ) I have fed have been whole (ungutted and fur on). It does them no harm, is extra food, and is how they would get it in the wild. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
the same here, I feed 2 rabbits per day, between 21 ferrets, defrosted from the night before, they are gutted before freezing, but I then skin then once defrosted and chopped up both rabbits into chunks, even it out between them all, firsly I can then be sure that each ferret is getting there fair of meat, plus you can see if your over feeding or under feeding, maybe one a fortnight I'll give them a whole gutted rabbit complete with fur couple reasons for skinning, firstly if you have ever tried chopping a rabbit with fur on, you'll know that the fur goes everywhere, and secondly, Im trying to tann all the skins, for another idea I have Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
I prepare all rabbits as if i am going to eat them, skinned, portioned and frozen in day bags. If i want a meal my self, i just eat the ferret food.. it doesnt take long when you get in to a routine Matt Quote Link to post

The one 8,503
I always gut the rabbits usaully for fear of tape worms ,even though i worm the dogs every three months .And them i open the ribs up to the throat and open up the pelvis before putting them in the frezzer Quote Link to post
johnnyboy28 1
I gut the rabbits but leave the fur on, this helps worming the ferrets or so i was told years back also the skin would not be removed if they hadcaught them in the wild Quote Link to post
