solo-hunter 0
Hi guys any ideas on the best sort of cartridge to shoot foxes with. using express 53g BB at the moment and remington heavy magnum 50g no.2. cheers Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
BB's have always worked best for me. I've shot from 36gm to 64gm. One will kill as stone dead as the other as long as you cover foxy with the pattern and keep the range (which differs from shooter to shooter) under 40 yards. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Can't say fairer than that. The cartridge I use, on the rare occasion I use a shotgun for foxes these days, Are the Remington No.2. Thay hit hard and I have dropped more with them than any, even though they are expensive. SportingShooter 0
SG's? I have a box full and wouldn't fire them at anything over 20 yards 9 pellets in a 36gram load. Seems like guess work to me. Mind you, if one did hit the said Beast, with 1500ft/lbs of energy, it would do some serious damage. Each to their Own. Regards SS Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Having patterned them, I'd not use SG either. Largest shot I would use would be AAA, something like 40 pellets in a 36 gram load (standing by for correction), I think a 36 gram BB load has 70 or so pellets, compare it to 9 in SG Like others I'm still stuck with some, time to start collecting plastic milk jugs Having a few large pellets sounds great, but, I put up a print out of an adult fox (life size facing me) and fired five shots at 40 yards, no hits Quote Link to post

Ive always used BBs keeping the distance sensible. Once tried SGs , never again pattern of shot missed fox cleanly at close range , better off having more pellets in the pattern!! :clapper:s Quote Link to post
