yep cut in winter as with all sticks the sap in the tree is lower and will take less time to dry.

Cheers for the replies. Think ill get some later on in the year, then dry them out. Probably get a good few and have a go, ill let you know how I come on.

how do you cure it just let it dry out while your nets are hanging ? if your making a stick how do you cure it tie it to a clothes post or ?? whens the best time of year to do it or just anytime do?

 

If your making a stick cut it when the sap's low and cable tie it on to a beam in your shed etc for a year to let it dry out and keep it straight them you can start to work on it

rofl i just get some sticks while im out on the hunt! any will do for me aslong as its the right size and density ill take it

make my own in the workshop out of scrap pieces od hardwood, Iroko, Oak ,mahogany,keroin(spelling)

 

Usually 6" or 8" long point cut on them and hole at the top, i recko there gonna last me a while

cut them with saw cut into smaller bits length of your finger sharpen with knife drill hole at top so the draw cord doesent slip of at vital time

All my nets are a mix of hazel and dowl. I only make mine small 4"-5" is more than enough I find.

 

I have made some pegs from holly before and they have been really really strong, problem is finding the right stuff and enough of it.
