Guest SPIFF
Just wondered what feed and exercise lads are starting their working terriers on coming into the season. Lots is talked about conditioning for greyhounds etc`but very little fellas put enough time and thought into the terriers imo and just thought about any tips fellas use ,ie. B12,VitC,oils etc etc At the end of the day some are expected to spend hours underground using every muscle with limited air with adversaries in tip top shape. Quote Link to post

I personally give mine a tea spoon veg oil and codliver oil 1nc a week , walk them well and give them a high protien and carbohydrate diet and that tends 2 work for me !!! But every man to there own !! Quote Link to post

Guest AngelicAcid
i feed raw, lamb ribs, keepers mix added in the mince. As for conditioning they chase balls, a bit of grip work, and walks, keeps them trim, but mainly do this most of the year. Quote Link to post

POSSUM 13
I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT HAND WALKING CAN BE A GREAT WAY TO GET THE TERRIER READY FOR A GOOD HUNTING SEASON...IT WILL HELP REMOVE EXTRA FAT, CONDITION THE TERRIERS PADS, ETC BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS..I LIKE A LONG LEAD SO THE TERRIER GETS A GOOD WORKOUT...DANIEL Quote Link to post
Guest fell terrier
regular excersise two to three times a day i find that just letting them run with the lurchers is as good as anything bushing ratching about on the farm mine tend to be kept in tidy nick throughout the year due to working them all year Quote Link to post
Waz 4,266
For conditioning the terriers, 'I use wash and go'. Why take 2 bottles into the shower? Plenty of exercise around the yard, dodging the pups, bit of bushing does the trick, varied diet. Edited August 16, 2008 by GD Waz Quote Link to post
Guest pikey
I WORMED ALL MY DOGS IN THE YARD LAST WEEK, EACH DAY I WALK THEM FOR FOUR MILES, WHEN I GET BACK, I PUT THEM ON THE SLAT MILL FOR 5 - 10 MINUTES, IF ITS FINE I LET THEM RUN THE JENNY FOR 5- 10 MINUTES. IF ITS RAINING THEY GO ON THE ELECTRIC MILL AT A SPEED OF 6 KM FOR 30 MINS, AT PRESENT I HAVE TWO SLAT MILLS, ONE I MADE MYSELF AND THE OTHER I GOT FROM THE "MILLMAKER", I HAVE A CARPET MILL AND A JENNY, WHILE I AM CLEANING THE KENNELS THEY ARE ALL BEEN EXERCISE, I NEVER HAVE A FEAR THAT MY DOGS ARE UN FIT, I PUT THEM TO GROUND KNOWING I GAVE THEM 100 %. AS FOR FOOD I GIVE THEM 8-12OZ OF MINCE MEAT/ CHICKEN I PUT ONE WHEATABIX SOAKED WITH A SPOON OF COD LIVER OIL, COCONUT OIL AND A SPOON OF WHEAT GERM OIL, I MAY UP OR DECREASE THE CONTENTS OF THIS DIET IF I FEEL I NEED TO. I START THIS FOOD OFF WITH FOUR TERRIERS, IF ONE TERRIER GET BANGED UP ILL PUT THE NEXT DOG I NEED TO REPLACE ON THIS DIET AND EXERCISE. A DOG MUST BE 100% FIT OR ELSE I WONT BRING HIM DIGGING. COMPO 54
a good thread, folk dont seem to think of conditioning the little warriors but spend ages road walking their running dog! feeding the best diet etc.... i think a varied diet with as much meat and bone as possible, and as much exercise as you can and they should be up for it when needed!....in fact that goes for any dog/hound!
