tiny tim 22
i know i rarely post on here but come on every day.i,ve made many friends on here and feel i have to share the highs and lows of 2 seasons hunting until my dog passed away on friday the story starts 2 years ago i was on my way to see a litter of pups .i arrived at my destination after getting lost a couple of times <never was good at directions >.i met the lady that that had bred the litter .someone that i am now proud to call a friend.there were 8 pups in the litter i have never seen a better reared litter ,fat as butter and we all talk about socialising a litter and picking the first pup that comes to you ..this lot nearly flattened me when she opened the pen door.from being fairly clean one minute to fifty muddy footprints, shoe laces pulled undone the next..how do you choose a pup when they all want you.probaly 2 hrs later and now decision ,i wanted a bitch so that narrowed it down the 4 ,in the end i just crouched down and scooped the first bitch that came to me .LIL i called here .we travelled home together .the first journey together.a journey that would take us from one end of the country to the other.hunting rabbit on the cold mountain tops to coursing on the flat plains of cambridge.she just settled in at home never whined or messed in the house.chewed all the legs off the pine kitchen table.she was a joy to train .it just seemed to easy.retrieving balls and socks all day long ..her first summer was spent just walking and playing with the kids in the garden .i started to work her at maybe 10 months old she had seen a few rabbits on our long summer walks.but now it was serious first night on the lamp and i swung the beam across the stubble and there was one in the middle slowly walking towards she was pulling straight .i thought theres no way she can see it at this distance.something she would do all her life, she saw things in the distance that you wouldnt have thought possible.i slipped her and she was all over it i could hear her teeth snapping together as she missed and missed again and again ,closer to the hedge but at the fence she connected..all the training comes in now will she bring it back ..eventually she did in a fashion ..i didnt care i went home 10 foot tall.she went on to catch many on the lamp.the first 2 hares she saw she caught, she made everything look easy. i was invited by her breeder to run in a seven dog memorial trophy.she was just 14 months old .it was in memory of her son that had had a tragic accident.it was an honour to be invited ...competion rules 100 yrd slips..every one got out of the van ,,impressive saluki crosses all rugged up.my dog looked abit out of place ..so what it was great just being there ...it was her first slip and the slipper moved ahead of the line and a hare got up ..i waited for him to slip 100 yrds is a long way .she was away all over it and snapped it up ...i was that pleased her 1st daytime hare ,she had only run one other in the day...she never let me down.never got injured, from strength to strength.i caught my first deer with her..thanks ptb, carrying on to catch 4 different species.great times we had togethernot oly just her with other people we met abnd huntede with ,we made a great team.gentle and quiet at home ,playing with the kids every day to demon in the field, whether it was flushing and retrieving shot game to lamping bigger stuff.she loved it and gave 110% every time.until that fatful day when she was slipped on the last hare ,..she ran it to the top of a brow and pulled it ..i knew something was wrong...she never pulled up.i got to her she had broken her back leg.she went to the vets for x rays but was no good.thanks rob for supporting me on that last day i needed a shoulder to cry on many years ago i lost a dog in an accident ,i said i would never let another dog into my heart, but lil being the typical female thast she was wormed her way in and now she has broke it...r.i.p Quote Link to post

Sorry for ya pal Dillon Quote Link to post
fr0gman4 0
Really gutted for you mate.....from the second we take these pups on we set ourselves up for that inevitable day that we have to be parted from them and we all know its gonna break your heart when it comes. Some come just seem to come along faster than others but they all hurt like fcuk. two years was no time at all especially when its one of them special dog of a life time types. Great pics of some real good times to hang on to. chin up lad Quote Link to post
