Guest JohnGalway
Hi folks, Well Dad has been wanting to dust off the outboard and bring the currach out the bay after some mackerel for a while now. I've been working on the good days so we've not had a proper chance until now. We set off out from the quay in the village and all was going well until the mouth of the bay when it got a bit more choppy that I like it in an 18 foot open boat Seeing as how I can't swim... Sheets of rain decided to move in from the Atlantic at the same time The fishing was a little slow, getting ones and twos. Most I got was four on a line. I think all told we got around 25, no pollack today which was strange as we usually get a few. We met a local couple in another boat on the way home and gave them some as they'd not caught any all day no good if you can't share them. If the weather had been better I'd have been thinking maybe they weren't fishing all that time I only had the camera phone so the picture/video quality is pretty poor! The view towards home. Dad. The biggest mackerel of the day, plus one of the smallest. They're bigger than last year Sorry for the quality of this, I wanted to take some video to show it wasn't exactly calm. The outboard wasn't at 100% throttle, actually it was just slightly above start up speed The bit just before the cursing and laughing was I let off on the throttle because we'd almost become airborne and slamed down pretty hard ATB, John Quote Link to post

Just a little Malt Still it's great to get out there and get away from the trials and tribulations of daily strife I couldn't believe how warn the sea was, got covered in enough of it john i was fishing in spiddell last week meself and out in salt hill had a few mackerel but fishing wasnt great This is just our first time out this year Scent, but last year they seemed to be much more plentiful, although considerably smaller in size. Mind you, from shore in different spots I have seen literal "seas" of mackerel this year I just didn't happen to have a boat and line at the time Quote Link to post

Guest G.Mac
John that looks rough alrite. Its alrite going out but when you get caught out its get home sharp time ha ha I'm just back after going to look at a 15' clinker. Took a spin out in it and it was great 8hp Yamaha on it and handled well. The boys here have got some pollack too but not a lot. Weather isnt great either and dont know whether it will pick up before the end of the season. What sort of money is on those 18' ones down your end? And do they go a bit cheaper at the end of the season or do they hold their price. Quote Link to post
