rick12345 181
Does anybody know how to treat a rabbit skin ? I want to make a lure for my new pup. I shot one this afternoon and currently have it pinned out on a bit of plywood. I have also salted it, not sure if this is the right thing to do but im sure i saw someone do this to a skin on tele. Any tips would be greatfully received.

The one 8,503
I used to scrap the pelt with a old spoon trying to remove as much fat, blood, etc from the skin then salt them and peg them out but they all turned out stiff as boards
stubby 175
I recently bought a tanning kitt, where you submerse the skin for 24hrs, but to be honest, its not that much better than skins that I simply stretch out and nailed to plywood for a week, as already said, rubbing salt in, stops to many flies, the skins still have that carboard feel to them, I also bought some oil that is rubbed in, after the 24hr dip, but dont see that making much difference either
