rolly 0
I'm getting my first running dog a good Pit/Airedale x Grey and wondering what it might be fast enough for in the US. I plan on using it on slow game like bolting coons, but with half fast blood, will it be fast enough for fox and rabbit? Would like to try it on the end of a coyote race too. Quote Link to post
wetdogsmell 99
i'd say it depends on what time type of pit is in the mix, plenty of bull Xs are fast enough for foxes, so it could be ok. best of luck with it mate Quote Link to post
Kye 77
Rolly, most people who use Lurchers over here dont even need a Lurcher!..lol..you dont need a Lurcher to catch coon/ground hogs, or for drawing..plenty of other breeds that could do that better... The pup will be fast enough for fox, coon, badger and all the other smaller game and it will take rabbits i should think...may even take the odd hare, or bigger faster game...maybe it wont catch a coyote, but i dont see why it wouldnt kill one?...just one way to find out i guess?...train/rear it up good, then hunt it on stuff!..lol. Kye.. Quote Link to post
rolly 0
Kye, I didn't get it just for coons. I am doing a coyote project making a terrier for denning yotes (not pups, fullgrown adults) for the ADC and coyote chasers, and wanted something for if the yote busted out a woodpile or culvert after being drawn by the terrier. Figure this should work alright for that. I had an airedale for coon bolts and she did okay. She'd play with them more than kill them, but I figure this new lurcher should be the ticket for coyote bolt primarily, and handle any coon that walks for a secondary job. I sold her and hope this one works out. Quote Link to post
UphillDoc 278
Rolly-Kye is right, the only way to find out is to try it. If she is a good one, she will not only do the things you mentioned but far more! Dont pay attention to the folks that will tell you what they cant do, just let her show you what she can do. Hares to Bears, its all do able with a good lurcher... Take care. Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
it would be nice to see a pic of it rolly... sounds like a good cross, and i'm sure good airedales and pits are easier to come by over there than they are here??? what is its breeding, is it airdale/greyhound x pitbull/greyhound or is it airedale/pit x greyhound???? sorry to be so nosey Quote Link to post
rolly 0
Uphilldoc, hear ya on that. My first one and will be used on anything I can catch with her. Hunting is always the best test of what can/can't be done. She is coming from RC1 and Hoss1 and catchdog are getting some too I believe. Oldskool, it's greyhound crossed to a female airedale/pit. Will snap some shots when I get her. Picking her up this weekend. Not being nosey, don't worry about it. Quote Link to post
Hoss1 3
Guys, I think you will be surprised at how greyhoundy these pups look. I don't know anything about the Sire except that he was a grade A track dog and is producing grade A track pups. Tha Dam belongs to RC1 and is a airedale/pit cross. I have hunted with the dam a few times and is sight to see work. Very biddable, smart as hell, and works really well with the terriers. About the only thing lacking with the dam is speed, and that guys is why RC made the cross to the greyhound............I guess only time will tell if it was the right way to go. Quote Link to post
OHIO STEVE 11
My pup is a littermate to these. Unless I told you, you probably would not see the pit or airedale. He is very racey looking. Quote Link to post
OHIO STEVE 11
link to the thread of my pup from this litter with pics. Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
I just picked up my littermate to these pups last night. She doesnt show any of the dale or pit in her at all. Very racey lookin and acts as good as any pup I have ever seen. She is smart as a whip and she is gonna be the ticket for me hopefully anyway. Only time will tell and it will tell. For her sake I hope she does her job. Quote Link to post

Kye.. KYE, you are correct. 95% of what I have done with my old lurcher a non dog aggressive bulldog could have done ( and mine has) or basically ANY breed that would not grab a terrier. BUT the lurchers sure are fun to watch and fool with, PLUS I want to try a few different quarry that another breed might NOT be able to handle All in all I just like them and have fun with them. rolly 0
I'm looking forward to this pup. Should be a learning experience for two.... Quote Link to post
rolly 0
Here's a couple pics of the new little rat, named Twig. Threatening to kick my wife's ass if she came over to her blanket. Quote Link to post
