Ron Weasley 83
hello just wondering if the wheals disease would effect the ferret thanks liam hi Liam its veils disease is transmitted to humans in the urine of infected rats.i wouldn't feed it them just in case horrible things they is hope this helps or ask in ferret section regards Davy Sorry to be a pedant Davy, but actually it's Weil's Disease- Leptospirosis. In answer to your question Liam, technically yes. A ferret will definitely nosh down on a rat, but personally you wouldn't catch me feeding my ferrets rats, not even in the hardest of times!! There's probably all sorts of disease risks involved...I'm not too sure how Weil's would affect ferrets, but just think about the life a rat lives- not something to be eaten. Then, more pertinently, there's the risk of anticoagulant poisoning. There's a fair chance these rats will have been poisoned somewhere- by a neighbouring farmer/landowner/whatever, so just think about it!! All the best. Ron. Quote Link to post

BEARINATOR 2,871
Ferrets will eat rats, they leave the tails but the risks of disease or poisoning are too great Quote Link to post
rick12345 181
Personally i wouldnt feed rats to a rat ! Like ron weasley said, if the disease risk isnt enough there is a chance they could have been poisened. Quote Link to post
brecon3 13
brian plummer tells in his book that he feeds rats to his ferrets all the time brecon3 Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
Presume all dead rats have traces of poison in them. Secondary poisoning in something the size of a ferret can be drastic and possibly fatal. Brian Plummer said lots of things. Quote Link to post

Good point, I forgot to say on my last post that the rats my ferrets have been fed are from areas where I know with a 100% certainty that no poison has been put down. Quote Link to post
