Sorry to be a pedant Davy, but actually it's Weil's Disease- Leptospirosis.

In answer to your question Liam, technically yes. A ferret will definitely nosh down on a rat, but personally you wouldn't catch me feeding my ferrets rats, not even in the hardest of times!!

There's probably all sorts of disease risks involved...I'm not too sure how Weil's would affect ferrets, but just think about the life a rat lives- not something to be eaten.

Then, more pertinently, there's the risk of anticoagulant poisoning. There's a fair chance these rats will have been poisoned somewhere- by a neighbouring farmer/landowner/whatever, so just think about it!!

All the best.

Ron.

Presume all dead rats have traces of poison in them. Secondary poisoning in something the size of a ferret can be drastic and possibly fatal.

Brian Plummer said lots of things. :hmm:

:icon_redface: Good point, I forgot to say on my last post that the rats my ferrets have been fed are from areas where I know with a 100% certainty that no poison has been put down. :victory:
