IanB 0
Was out with pegandgun today to check a few snares hes had out the last few days, the ground is old slag from the iron ore from foundries and impossible to peg, with standard tealers, so they were attached to bricks and set as the same, hes had a good few from there the last few days, but the foxes took most of them overnight when they were checked this morning, leaving heads, or the full lot gone.... Sure they will have there day.. Heres a few shots anyway for people wanting to snare on similar ground, notice the length on one which was dragged a good 60ft then eaten, the foxes took seven in total... Quote Link to post
Bobo 135
He IS the daddy. Should we address him "brickandgun" now then. I couldn't see him in half the pics because of sapling trees,he really is a shadow of his former self. Quote Link to post

Good pics, and another weapon to the armoury, though I wouldn't like a hundred brick snares in my gamebag ingenuity at it's best, well done. Quote Link to post
MR TEA POT 1,287
Looking at the bricks and rubble in the background i am assuming, could be wrong, they used them to tie the snares on to instead of fetching them from home. Nice going lads, pity the fox had a few. Quote Link to post

mackem 26,352
Many a true word is said in jest, except old pat will expand on it,make a 30 minute "Short" and write several articles on his new, ingenious "Hod-snare" for those hitherto un-catchable urban wasteland bunnies Forget quickset netting baskets, the next rabbiters de-rigeur equipment is a genuine warreners snare-hod,though you have to be like Max Quarterman to hump it around Quote Link to post
woodga 170
Simple methods are all ways the best a case of adapting a method we use to catch one predator and using it to catch rabbits ingenuity at its best . i was once asked to snare a railway embankment the fence along its length was four wooden rails the bottom rail was about eight inches off the ground . The rabbits were pasing under this the bank was shale and some kind of coal dust material rabbits were coming under in various places there was no visible anchor points for fence wires and peg or hoop snares would not work. So the next day i went back with some staples and a hammer and placed them there ready for fence snaring i still use that location today .A bit of thought and you can catch rabbits in most places well done ian and peg glad to see your still about Quote Link to post

DUCKWING 302
NICE POST PHIL , DO YOU MEAN THESE BINGS ? THEY ARE BLOODY BIG AND STEEP ........... AS IVE SAID BEFORE WE OFTEN HUNTED AREAS AROUND MY HOME TOWN WHICH ARE VERY SIMILAR , FROM STEEP RAILWAY ASH BANKS TO RUBBISH TIPS AND PIT HEAPS ,.... ONE SPOT ... YOU HAD TO BE WARY OF AS THERE WAS A FIRE BURNING IN THE HEAPS FOR YRS , WHEN THE WIND HOWLED YOU COULD OFTEN SEE THE GROUND GLOWING ON A NIGHT , VERY DANGEROUS TO WALK ACROSS .......... NOT ONLY WERE WE INVENTIVE ATTACHING THE SNARES BUT ALSO THE NETS WHEN BOLTING THE GAME ALONG THE BANKS , THE BRAMBLES WERE A GREAT BOON TO US WHEN ATACHING A PEG AS IT WAS A SIMPLE KNOT WITH PEG ATTACHED FOR PURSE NETS AND SNARES ............. THOUGH LATTER WE GOT WISE AND ADDED FENCEING STAPLES TO ALL SORTS OF SITUATIONS LIKE ALLOTMENT SHEDS , FENCES WITH RUN THROUGHS ETC WHICH WERE HUNTED REGULARY .......... I JUST USED THE CORD IN A LOOP PUSHED THROUGH AND THE PEG AS A TOGGLE .......... SIMPLE FIXING IN SECONDS WITH THE SAME TO REMOVE IT ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
