spynappels 0
Hi Guys, Having just got a Cometa 300N, I find that I have trouble keeping the scope dead on the target. Any slight trembles or movement mean the crosshairs fly all over the place. As it is a springer, I know I cannot just lean the forend of the rifle on something, but I have found that steadying myself against something does help. Over open sights, I've accounted for a few pigeons which were roosting in a barn at a mate's house, but that was at fairly close range (20yds max). I'm using a Hawke 6 x 40 MAP scope and its zeroed (as best I can) for 35yds. I've shot PCPs which are a lot easier to aim as you can lean them or use a tripod, but I'm wondering if my targeting will get steadier with practise or if there are any other tricks to try. I love the simplicity of the Cometa, and now that I've taken the trigger apart and polished the internals, I know that the heavy trigger is not the cause of my pulling shots, it is just me being unsteady. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks, Stef. Quote Link to post
borak 1
get yourself a canvas topped fishing stool i got mine from the pound shop near me because its not solid like a bipod you can rest your rifle on it and when out hunting it doubles up a a seat Quote Link to post
T78 4
you'd be better off getting a low mag(4x)scope.as the scope makes your wobbles seem 6x worse! also drop your zero(and range)to something like 25yrd til your hold improves.not having a dig mate,im the same and even though i shoot a pcp,i still know my limit... droid 11
I feel better now. Reading about people getting 1" groups at 40 yards when I can't get anywhere near that at 12.....standing, admittedly. Practice practice practice I guess...... Quote Link to post

Yeah, the 1" group at 40yds brigade was beginning to make me feel inadequate too. Practise is helping a little, I guess there just is no short cut.... Quote Link to post

Grim Reaper 1
i breathe in when i take a shot funny how different people shoot bet theres some strange stances among us Hi mate, The way i was taught when i was learning (armed services, FN FAL 7.62 SLR) was that when you breathe in, your crosshairs (or front sight if using 'opens') will fall, when you breathe in, they will rise up. I was also taught a fundamental thing in regards of breathing when shooting (outlined below). What i always do is this: I breathe in, let it go out half way, hold breath & stop breathing, slip the shot off, then immediately start breathing again. Doing this helps you out really as the action of holding your breath immediately before slipping the shot off, actually gives you a solid and non-moving base (albeit for only a second mind, but solid none the less) from which to get that shot away. Hope this is helpful to you Wats? Regards, Grim. Quote Link to post
