BlueCoyote 0
I had a thought today about keeping my dogs fit AND safe... besides running them on leashes down the road and back.... right now there's too many dump trucks, we'd all get flattened! My thought was to make one of those lure coursing things.. you know where they tie a plastic bag or a piece of skin to a string which is... some how pulled by a motor and the dog chases it? i have no idea how they are set up or built but would it be possible, or easy, to build one? what material would i need? seems like they have motors that pull the string along a pulley system... i have the space for, i just dont know how hard it would be to make one, and i'm sure my husband could get the motor for it. thanks
ghostlyease 17
I would have no idea how to make one (Ade made ours) but I know if you have a little car knowledge its not too hard as its main components are car parts. Try your dog on the flirt or exercise pole, we use carrier bags to half balls to coat fur for the dogs to chase........... These 2 pups had never done it before, took to it real easy, Ade is using a horse whip here with a bag tied to the end......
BlueCoyote 0
my husbands the mechanical one.. i'll see if he can get some of those parts for me. i've done the flirt poles before, and i like them.. but i'd like to see them run flat out, not just jumping after it. i'm afraid that might wear on the joints after a while. Plus one of my dogs CANT jump, but she can run like hell. thanks! Edited August 12, 2008 by BlueCoyote

Pulleys can be made out of certain types of trolley wheels, go to your local supermarket and have a nose, there are ones that once you take the rubber wheel out your left with a metal, grooved free turning wheel , these can be used, we have used this type when doing simulated coursing.
