I have seen a spaniel catch the odd rabbit out ferreting (but the rabbits have to run right into the dog lol) but they make quite good marking dogs. I may be wrong as I dont know much about dogs, but a springer and a cocker are almost the same. and My friend has a very nice working cocker spaniel

just take it out with you every time you go out and watch it at a burrow it will probably learn to mark burrows it'self you just have to pick up the signs as differnt dogs do differnt things from picking up a paw to starring at the burrow. It's just a case of knowing your dog

lad who i go ferreting with has 2 spaniels ... they are fully trained trial dogs and have won competions and soo on lol ... and they are a great ferreting tools ... when the ferret kills under ground they are straight over the top of it or have there heads in the nearest holes digging (better then any mark 3 and spade! lol) :D ... last time i was ferreting with him 1 of the dogs dug at a hole for 20 or 30 mins had its hole body in and dragged a dead bunny out with a ferret still attached :good:
