Molie1337 35
My 7mnth old patterdale bitch keeps wandering when on walks, she allways comes back, usually after about half an hour of me doing my best to loose my voice!! i was just wondering weather its best to praise her when she comes back or tell her off for being gone so long ?! shes my first "hunting" dog and maybe im just too used to the collie coming to the merest squeek!? any advice would be appreciated, and obviously "keep her on the lead" posts wont cut it!!! Thanks John Quote Link to post

Guest SPIFF
Hide from her?Flip sake stig, shes hiding from you When i had lurchers i had the problem and always praise them as they ll think they are getting chastised for coming back.Try in an narrow alley way calling her then loads of praise and reward keep doing it until you can let her of when out.Soon she ll associate coming back to you with rewards and "not that flipping lead again" For the perferts the narrow alley way is to stop the dog getting past you.also when she sees you always bend down with arms wide apart. IF ALL THIS FAILS TAKE HER OUT THE ROAD AND RUN AWAY ON HER WHEN SHES NOT LOOKING.LOL Edited August 11, 2008 by SPIFF Quote Link to post
Guest Eamon.Mc
Teach her to close her eyes and count to 10, might make it more fun!! :search: Quote Link to post
Tracy36 0
shes young and a terrier, wandering is what they do. take the advice from others on here and keep at it, she'll catch on. patterdales as with any terriers are quite headstrong, intelligent and keen as mustard to please. Halfinch 51
NEVER chastise a dog for returning, you'll start a vicious circle, she comes back you scold her, then she won't want to come back, You gotta go back to basics and teach her in a small area, if she doesn't come she gets ignored, if she does come, a small reward, lots of stroke/tit bit/favorite toy etc, It'll take time but patience will pay off. Good luck Quote Link to post
