you ask why, well why not? I know that there will be those who say you shouldnt breed dogs just for the sake of it but thats not what I meant in the post, i mean if you had a good working boxer(proven) and a working greyhound then why not? BTW i do not own a boxer or greyhound so wont be breeding the mix :) I suppose its the same as people wondering what it would be like with alsation lurchers or belgian shepherd lurchers.

cheers

I spose thats fine if your just breeding for yourself and want to see how this x does in the field and would involve you culling most of the litter. There's a few strange x's out there but these tend to be specialised and not so widespread as the more established x's such as bull saluki or collie. Most folk come back to these x's because they're proven over a number of yrs that they're up to the task. As the old adage goe's "if it aint broke dont try to fix it" and that certainly true of the established lurcher x's. ATB :icon_eek:

The aussies seem to use boxers in many pig dogs but perhaps their boxers have more working ability. My neighbour used to keep them, many of them died before 8 either through heart attacks or cancer. Also they weren't an inteligent breed. To much drooling, snoring and snot flying around for my liking :D

Hi lads I was wondering if anyone has done this cross and I will tell you why I ask. I have had boxers and their X's but not with a greyhound, and from my experiance they were all dogs with high prey drive, most had very powerful physics and were damn fast, another plus I found was that after they had matured they were all very protective but not mad biters. The down sides were they did'nt mind a scrap now and again, all cat killers(could not break them of the habit) and all hyper as hell, plus alot of people say bad things about the dentation but this was not a problem any of my dogs had.

I think that with the right boxer you would get as good a lurcher as any bull cross, whats your opinions?

cheers

hi kash yes mate I had two border collie boxer cross and have been asked on more than one occassion if they were pit X, one in particulat had a big lump of a head on him, I used to work them on rough cattle up here in the hebridies, fairly good strong dogs, great guard dogs as well, more than happy to take a lump out of any potential bad guy good with kids as well, very very agile the heavier of the two could jump a six foot wall no bother at all. Bugger I miss me dogs :(

I do have some pictures, one of the dogs is dead now, we think he had growths/cancer in his lungs started coughing up blood one daywithin three months he was a bag of bones even after being treated with steroids, couldnt afford it nearly 50 quid a week, the other dog is still going but not working anymore he is 8 years old and hardly any teeth left been kicked in the face so often, honestly they were among the toughest dogs I have ever known never heard a peep out of them even when hurt, as I said the only issue was the willingness to have a square go.

One day they decided to have a go at one another, no one knew because they fought in near complete silence by the time I realised they were just about collapsing but still had a hold of each other by the ear, they were brothers, came from a working collie bitch and a very large white boxer dog, one came out black and white the other brindle and white, the pics I have are of the bigger of the two but after he got sick and had started to lose weight(got a bit emotional when I realised he wouldnt be with me much longer so I got the camera out)

cheers
