boxer greyhound

Hi lads I was wondering if anyone has done this cross and I will tell you why I ask. I have had boxers and their X's but not with a greyhound, and from my experiance they were all dogs with high prey drive, most had very powerful physics and were damn fast, another plus I found was that after they had matured they were all very protective but not mad biters. The down sides were they did'nt mind a scrap now and again, all cat killers(could not break them of the habit) and all hyper as hell, plus alot of people say bad things about the dentation but this was not a problem any of my dogs had.

 

I think that with the right boxer you would get as good a lurcher as any bull cross, whats your opinions?

I couldnt tell you how the cross would work, maybe the aussie boys could. They seem to use them in their pig hunting exploits. Although i have had some first hand experience of pure boxers in the field. I used to live on the wirral some 11yrs back and lamped with a welsh lad called Russ. The lad in question had a large boxer dog named "DEL" and this dog came lamping with us on many occasions. When the lurchers accounted for a fox the boxer would happily join in, and the odd time he took some stick. The dog loved it and was sound with the other dogs, maybe he was a one off as i aint seen enough of the breed. I wouldnt personally be interested in this particular type as i feel a well bred bull x would be far superior. cheers wex

yea they do mate but I had two boxer border collie X that worked rough cattle up here in the hebridies and both dogs had a level bite, both were hard as nails and fast as, that why I wonder about the cross with the greyhound.

so in say a litter of 8 pups how many would carry the undershot jaw????? cos they'd have to be culled from the off really???? not sure what other people think, but i wouldn't see that as responsible breeding for the sake of a few good pups???

all the pups in the litter of boxer collie X had level bites there were 8 pups in the litter, its easier for boxer breeders to breed dogs without the undershot simply because of genetics, (however they dont due to breed standards)a dog should not have jaws like that, so an outcross to a dog with a level or scissors bite will nearly always produce pups with fairly good bites, thats from what I have seen however a dog will be produced every so often with an overbite, this is not always as bad as some people make out, a slightly undershot dog can perform all the same tasks you ask of its level bite litter mate. Just look at performance american bulldogs (notice I said slighly undershot, not like modern english bulldogs some of whom cant eat properly they are so undershot, but I have even heard these dogs been crossed to greyhounds and collies in new zealand to make pigdogs)

whats the big concern about dogs being undershot, this wont stop them working or biteing , surely a dogs apperiance is only for the show ring?

The bite would probably be fine in the first x but would probably crop up as a recessive trait when dogs with the recessive gene were mated together, Boxers also tend to have a number of health issues which you probably wouldn`t want ending up in the lurcher gene pool

There is a big difference between a truly undershot jaw and a reverse scissor bite. A slightlt undershot jaw is not detrimental IMO...Then again one that is so bad you see teeth with the mouth closed is another story all together.

IMO what would be the point? what would they add to the lurcher gene pool that you cant get with x's that are already out there?
