richie 1
thought id open the SAK & give it a clean, was quite surprised how much shit was in it after approx 500 rounds... the first time i cleaned a SAK it was a bollock ache by just soaking it in WD40... i used a different method this time.. placed it in a sealed tub & soaked it in wd40 & left it for 30 minutes... after opening it i still found the resedue hard.. put it in the tub for 20 minutes with CILLIT BANG... found it alot easier this time to take all the crud from inside by rubbing it gently with a dish sponge using the abrasive side & occassionally running it under hot water.. richie 1
Will that method work with the stainless mod without affecting the finish ?. Also last time i took it apart I damaged the front part that screws with my pliers. It was on realy tight. how do you get yours off without damaging it. Sorry for all the questions but im stiil a bit of a novice with rifles...... i will be trying it tomorrow with my stainless one aswell, so ill let you know.. i read on the back of the CILLIT BANG that its not reccommended to be used with enamel, aliminium, certain painted surfaces, ect ect. but to be honest after cleaning it last time i needed the extra power.... ill probably get up in the morning & look at the mod will of melted ! the way i remove mine was to put a thick dish cloth over the front & use the adjustable spanner to remove it, i push the spanner down being carefull that it doesnt slip off.. i take it youve burred the metal of yours ? if so, just use some fine grade wet & dry to smooth off the finish.. Finkley 1
Hey Richie, Like jamie g said, whack it in some Cola for 20 mins, I'm too scared to put mine in Cillit Bang, it's ally. Then go at it with an old 12G copper brush, I find it works a treat. I only clean mine about every 2000 rounds and it always comes up like new. Cheers, Steve Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
I cleaned mine after about 500 HMR rounds and it was filthy then. But I tried the cola trick and then finished it off with a spraying of Carbeuretta cleaner to soften anything remaining. It wiped off easily after being left to soak for a few hours and with a old rag. Regards SS Quote Link to post

I've got a wildcat whisper that could do with a clean. Edited August 12, 2008 by Local Quote Link to post

I guess different powders leave different residues. Quote Link to post
