Tried is the word as if done right have to cut the ear off ...Still a deterrent .Personally anyone caught ought to be tattooed.

TOTALY AGREE MATE ANYTHING TO HELP DOGS NOT GETTING NICKED OR WHEN LOST RETURNED IS WORTH IT

can understand having a tattoo'd dog, if done through a registration, as Ive had a dog with this, and a few years down the line after selling her, I recieved a phone call as the new owners hadent changed the details

but making your own set of numbers up, with your initals, is not going to gurantee getting a dog back, ok you can inform police etc of number/tattoo on ear, local vets etc, but if its taken out of the area, how would anyone unknowing, know that the dog was stolen,

Ok imagine this scenario then, you have a plain coloured lurcher, be it black, or red or whatever. Its stolen and you frantically search everywhere for it including cat and dog homes or council pounds. You ask the people in the cat and dog home if they have a black/red/fawn lurcher, yes weve got several comes the reply, a unique ear tattoo is going to make the search process a lot faster, rescue worker goes to check the dogs ear, comes back and says yes we have your dog, pop down and fetch it :victory: If you microchip your dog as well as the tattoo, you have double the chance of getting it back. I dont understand people who dont have it done, its very wise to in this day and age, these kits are the biz, I use the same one myself and all my dogs are tattooed and chipped, any go missing, they are registered to me so I'll be alerted if they end up in a dog home/pound etc and if they end up anywhere else :censored: I know they are mine, and can prove it :victory:
