As the article says they are voracious killers and will stop at nothing, and think nothing of killing hundreds or thousands of the many rare and breeding birds up there. There's no way we could tell just how long it would take them to check that many with the terrain up there being so varied. I imagine it would take and awful long time to check even four or five traps located on a peat hag. As long as the mink numbers are going down then does it really matter? Gav 1,708 Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Share Posted August 11, 2008 The thing up here is they are locating them out on the moor/bog which is only accessible by foot, even I have trouble getting to my peat banks with a tractor and that's got bog wheels on, I recently sank it just going to collect the peats. There are a few bog tractors out there still, lost under the peat bog, total submersed, you can't even see where they are. You wouldn't even want to walk out there unless you know the area and what to look for, i.e where to stand, walk etc. The peat bog is a dangerous place even for the experienced! I think a lot of you are jumping in without an understanding of the terrain up here. Quote Link to post

A TRAPPER WOULD TRAP WITHIN EASY WALKING DISTANCE OF THE BRIDGES / ROADS / TRACKS WHICH CROSS THE LAND AND THEREFORE WATERWAYS , GANG SET AT THE BRIDGES AND JUNCTIONS OF WATER WAY INLETS .... IE , AREAS WHICH WILL BE OF A GREATER ATTRACTION TO THE MINK ............ THEREFORE A TRAPPER CAN COVER A GREATER AMOUNT OF WATERWAY MILEAGE AND CHECK A GREATER AMOUNT OF TRAPS MAKING THE PERCENTAGE OF HIS CATCH FAR LARGER , HOPE I MADE MYSELF CLEARER ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
