undisputed 1,664
This was prompted by the earlier post on the arsehole who lamped a couple of pet cats. How many folks in here have actually took the time to break their dogs to cats or do folk think theyr'e fair game...some pics would be nice too. not of dead cats obviously but dogs living along side cats. maty j 6
Mine is, sort of. We have a cat and with our cat my bitch is fine. Yes she does want to play with her sometimes when the cat rolls around in the grass on her back and I have to remind her not to With the neighbours cats she is fine too...apart from one black and white bugger. Right big moggy he is too, she's almost had it twice now. Once it was on our garden Tess came out and it ran, Wrong move Tess followed and was catching it up but luckily it jumped a fence! I haven't got any pics but think Molly may have some if she sees this thread
lurchergrrl 1,441
I have been unable to break my grey to cats and had to get rid of two kittens I had as a result. The pup is fine with my adult cat but I'm forever on the lookout when I open the door - if he or any other cat is out there, and runs, it's game over. The odd time when the cat comes in the pup will play with him and vice versa ... but the grey sits watching, and waiting, for her chance to eat him. I muzzle her, it's easier. BlueCoyote 0
this cat is bomb proof lol all four are dead now, but yeah, they had a regular Peaceable Kingdom going on in that house with cats, fawns, geese, turkey, dogs, rabbits.... i used to have a picture of my bulldog bitch cuddled up to the cat, biting the fleas off his back, but i cant find it. must have lost it when the PC crashed. i never had to teach her anything. she came home and was ready to accept everyone in the house. we had one cat, big yellow tabby, that hated dogs. any chance he got he would take a swipe at her.... so pretty soon she started trying to catch him. chased him any chance she got. but she would lay down and sleep next to his brother. weird animals.... i just assume with any hunting dog you have to be careful about small furry animals bolting in front of them. its just in their nature to go after them. scares me to death when the neighbour's poodle comes into my yard too. my dogs arent likely to stop and check if she's a dog or possum until they've caught her! BUT they do stop dead in their tracks when i call them. so that counts for something. its when i'm not home that i worry....
Jim Grant 4
All of my dogs are broken to cats. I have three ex-feral cats and my partner has two moggies. She recently re-homed an ex-racing greyhound that hadn't made the grade (aged 18months). When he arrived he was cat trained, apparently most rescue organisations will try to do so as it is easier to re-home them. One of my partners moggies even goes for a walk with the dogs. Fiesty little bugger, great hunter and she terrorises the dogs. One mewow from her and dogs head for the hills. By the way two of the dogs are working Lurchers. My Jrt bitch was to unpredictable but she was an adult before she met the cats.. sometimes the cats will give both dogs a swipe now and again just to show who's boss but when one swiped my JRT she was dying to get back in to get her retaliation in so to keep the peace JRT is now kenneled with my mate. . Simoman 110
I break mine to cats, we have two at home but many farms have cats to keep rodents down and permission tends to become sparse if your dog nails the farmyard moggy when you unload the mutts............... borderman45 0
I have 2 cats and 5 dogs, 3 bigguns ! all 5 are scared stiff of the tabby especially my border, the lurcher will chase a bit until the cats stop and turn round then she backs off. The cats were here first but have always been used to the dogs, no one has ever really made a fuss and they all seem to understand. The border really gets on with the black and white, they even sometimes share the same bed.
