rizzini 1
17HHM for Rabbit and 223 for fox. CZ make good, cheap reliable rifles and maybe a simmons or bushnell scope. Hope this helps Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Depending on the range of the Rabbits then either the HMR or the .22 LR. It is, of course, possible to have them both and this is now quite common. This is perhaps the most versatile idea. The .22 LR is really the bread and butter Rabbit round. Most commonly used for out to about 75 yards but of course it can and will shoot a fair bit further. The .17 HMR will easily despatch a Rabbit at 200 if you can see and hit them that is. The HMR will make a mess of a Rabbit unless it is Head shot. As for foxes, You have a number of calibres you can choose from. They include, the .22 Hornet, .222, .223, .22-250 and the .243. These are the most popular. The .223 and .22-250 are probably the most common which can be used only for fox (Unless you have deer on your FAC, in which case they can take Muntjac and CWD) The above two are both excellent rounds and will despatch a fox cleanly to 300 and beyond. 300 yard shots on the lamp are few and far between normally, however. Hope this helps. Regards SS Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
Most popular brand in the budget rifle would be CZ For rabbit as SS says either .22lr or 17HMR depending on a few factors, expense, noise, range, ricochets. For fox I'd say either .223 or .22-250. I've no issues with people spending less on rifles than anyone else, but it's always a good idea to buy the best glass you can't afford. High quality glass will give you much better light transmission, giving you a better success rate Plus, if you ever decide to change scope, a high quality one will always be easier to sell Quote Link to post

vincy 3
howa cheap and reliable Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
i'd say a CZ will do you proud, great accuracy and built well at a decent price, but spend extra, on the glass and mounts as without its just a stick with a pipe on it .17 hmr or .22lr and a .223 or 22.250 if its your first rifle both are accurate and good to 300 and over if you know what you at... Deker 3,478
Seldom have I seen such a consensus of opinion! Totally agree, the choice comes down to .22LR, HMR, and .223, 22-250. My choice if pushed for just 2......... .22LR .223Rem Quote Link to post
