.22 LR-Could someone give me a definitive answer?

My cheap, nasty, tacky, crappy complete shit SAKO Quad .22lr will group slightly under half inch at 50 yards and slightly under an inch at 100 using Eley subs. And I'm no great shot.

 

Definately one to avoid

 

One thing I should have mentioned earlier is over on Arigun BBS bladiedave is your man for tricked out 10/22's Proper ones that can shoot I mean

 

And another thing... SS you can try my Quad when you're over if you've not had the chance to test one out by then

 

 

never fired one, just picked one up in the gun shop, & i wasnt impressed... obviously it goes without saying that the performance is important, but feel & looks are important to me aswell, i like a rifle to feel like a rifle, & the quad dont do it for me.....

Right I'm having my 2 pence worth here! Long thread from 1 day!

 

I own both rifles so I know a thing or two about them.

 

My Ruger 10/22 (10/22 T Stainless) is reliable and accurate. It has the 'target' trigger which is rubbish, but bearable - certainly it doesn't stop good shooting like the base trigger does. As for ' you need to clean it after 300 rounds' - so what?! 300 rounds is bloody loads for a bunny buster. I clean mine after 50 and you know what, I can strip and clean that rifle in less time than it takes me to do a centrefire.

 

As for 'the trigger will never beat a Sako Quad' - hogwash. Go and buy a Kidd trigger unit for £185. It's expensive sure, but it will laugh at the triggers on Sako and Anschutz rifles - it's far superior, with a crisper break.

 

Now, my Ruger cost me £400 so it's not cheap. It will need to have the barrel screw cut should it bust up bunnies, but mine is used as a range gun. However, I am very likely to get it cut and then sell my CZ, saves room in my cabinet. (and sadly space is at a premium in my shoebox)

 

So, the Quad. Well, I love that too. (HMR by the way) Shoots very straight, reliable rifle. Looks cheap but feels nice, I have it in synthetic stock. Ultimately it's a Sako, there's not much more you need to say.

 

If I had to have one or t'other (let's assume they're both 22LR) I would have the Ruger. My reasons for this are what the Ruger offers besides a bunny-bashing tool. It's a target gun for gallery rifle, or a tin-can gun. But if it was just a bunny gun, it'd be the Quad.

The only rimfire I have ever used was a cheap 10/22and it's my mates. I think its pretty reliable as we went throught 600+ shots one day and it never jammed. Just kept firing and firing.

 

SS, think of the cheaper model of the 10/22 as the ak47 of rimfires. Not bad at 50-70 yards out and fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. If you want a 22lr for professional rabbit control then dont get a 10/22.

 

It's just the fun factor I like about the 10/22. I have made a Video of the rifle and I'll try to find it and upload it on youtube then post it on here if you want.

well the 10/22 is a semi automatic mate and unless youve got a semi auto on your FAC then you cant get 1 anyway, sako is a. nice .22 never fired 1 only seen it in the shop

i have a semi auto .22 rimfire and it says nothing on my ticket about possesing a semi auto semi auto!

Why the quad, go with a straight forward SAKO, forget the gimmicks, i have a 10/22 completley tricked up, it,s ok i use it for my NV work, gets a few jams if i am sloppy about cleaning it, but it is not that bad.

Rather be using my good old BRNO though and it is nearly half the cost.

It's the bolt every time better-made and you think more of your shot when making it auto's can be fun but it is easy to get carried away and keep pulling the trigger the bolt gun will make you a better shot and a better hunter
