cúagusgiorraí 57
There was a fella on here that posted about his two bedlington terriers catching a lamped hare, rabbits and fox, if I remember correctly? Terriers catching lamped hares, just proves how easy it is. Edited August 4, 2008 by cúagusgiorraà Quote Link to post

Guest markbrick1
i can guarantee you i can take him places his bedlingtons wont catch lamped hares, pre ban my terriers always have a wonder with me on the lamp pre season and odd night in summer, they work the fox above before below and i find it gets them a good chance to see plenty in the right enviroment, theyve caught rabbits and cubs on the lamp, but they wont be entering into any competion but like i said before lamped hares on open ground arnt easy ok day is harder but its still a fair competion for the old dog, mark Quote Link to post
Guest joe ox
Just wondering do people lamp the hares...? Personally i dont because i feel its too easy at night and nearly any dog could catch a hare at night. Just wondering...??? To give hares a chance during daylight hours there given law if there not given law they are killed a lot easier. If a hare was given law on the lamp how much harder would they be to kill? desertdog 149
surely the point of this thread has been missed, i lamp anything edible that comes into striking distance of me dog, thats the point sporting or not, i was brought up with foxes are for hunting and hares are for coursing, but it dont stop shooters lamping and killing hares do it?, and keepers killing hares by the hundred on shoot days, i say stop yer feckn whinging and bickering and get out and work your dog and enjoy natures bounty, i no longer follow hounds or go beating i hunt for myself, my family and the love of the of my dogs, get on with that, desertdog. salukiman 28
How can you call a blinded hare fair game? I can guarantee you it is much easier to catch a hare on the lamp as it dosent know where its going round and round in circles untill it gives up... You must be easily pleased socks...Stick to the rabbits and foxs on the lamp. i hate to be negetive but rearly, what are you talking about! it doesnt know where it is going and it gives up. hares are animals of habbit they have places where they live this may well be quite a large section of land but dont be nieve, that hare is on the ground all the time and they are escape artists they know that bit of land better than you. as for giving up we are not talking i wll try harder next time or i am a bit bored come back tomorrow, we are talking loose and die. get beaten yes but give up no. as comparing them to a rabbit( mistaken on the lamp i think we have all done) have some respect for your quarry a rabbit will never be a hare have a look at the litters of the 2 and ask yourself which is more equipped to survive. Guest markbrick1
alot of your daytime dogs wouldnt catch one on the lamp down here due to their over runnig. ive said that for ages but get slated i can take some of the best fen dogs to places and they wont catch 1 out of 4 you need a very fast good jumping old fashioned LURCHER Quote Link to post
Guest world.hunters
i wouldnt say lamped hares are easy all togeather you can go to some places where they can be picked up easy enough but on other ground they have a good sporting chance. all depends on ground and its surroundings me and rew mainly lamped hilly ground on small fields with hedgrows around them and they were not easy to catch. stone wall surrounded feilds can keep a hare in alot long then a hedgerow would although some hares will simply jump the wall lol. the hare is an amazing sporting quarry weather its day or on the lamp. best i have had was 4 out of 4 and that was on lamp on hedrow fields and they were good winter hares and long retrieve ofcourse they was shot and retrieved like we all do in england lol W.h Quote Link to post
abbott 0
round my end if you see a hare on the lamp, you slip, thats a load of shite that the hare is blind! i prefer coursing them in the day but stil do it on the lamp Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
I would much rather see hares coursed and killed by dogs night or day than see a line of people with guns walking fields 10 yards apart shooting every hare that lifts. Shooting Hares, should of been banned not coursing. If youve got a dog that can not do them during the day but will take em at night,, and the landowner wants them gone,, yeh lamp em,, Better than letting then get shot. Quote Link to post
