scothunter 12,609
Went out with a mate to bag a cpl bunnys for the ferts tonight. We saw a cpl of buzzards on the way in.Anyway i got a nice position beside some gorse and waited for the coney.Sat there about 10mins when i heard a flutter above me and i looked up and saw this brownish large bird falling from the cables of a pylon above me.It came down like a helicopter in slow motion then hit the ground. My first thought it was one of those buzzards we had saw earlier and my mate had shot it.(even though i knew he wouldnt do that). On walking over it was a large young seagull. It was still alive but clearly f****d so i gave it the coup de grace.I can only think it was electrocuted.I didnt want to hang around in case someone saw it falling (explain that one to the cops)Threw it deep into a gorse bush and stopped at tesco for some chicken legs for the ferts. Scuzy 1
Hey mate, It doesent matter, in my opinion they are worse vermin than the crow . If it was brown it was probably a young one so i wouldnt worry, Dont fret about it they are on the general licence anyway so it should be O.K. They are great ferret food do you should have kept it lol. Luke. Quote Link to post

BBB 7
lesser black back's , great black back's and herring gull's are classed as vermin[ the young un you found sound's like it was one of the 3]. they can be shot legaly. ye should of fed it to the ferret's though. Quote Link to post
Grim Reaper 1
If i remember rightly, brown feathers would indicate that the gull was around 2 - 2 1/2 yrs or under in age - the brown feathers stay brown until adulthood is reached (at around 2 to 2 1/2 years of age, i believe?). That is when the plumage changes colour into the more familliar whites, greys and blacks we are more used to seeing the gulls wearing. As said, Lesser black backed, greater black backed, and herring gulls are on the quarry list; but please, just be careful as to the 'where's' and 'why's' when shooting them guys. Regards, Grim. Grim Reaper 1
i was amazed that it was electrocuted i see birds sitting on cables all the time. Maybe . . . .just maybe . . . . .when it settled upon the power cable for a rest, it may have sat on a shard of wire poking through the outer sheath, and got a spark or two up it's arse!?!? LOL * Rant starting * Collectively speaking, shit hawkes is what those feckers are - i mean to say, the state they leave the paintwork of your car in after they have finished dumping their dinner all over it!! * Rant over * All the best, Grim. andy s410c 61
Seagulls as fert food well i would'nt.They can be full of sammonella & lots of other nasties, look where they spend half their time feeding off landfill, out of city centre bins, gutters & god knows where else.Ferts have a resistance to sammonella but the amounts they would injest would probalies be fatal. Edgar 1
I saw this happen once, but I think the seagull just injured itself flying into the cables as if it was electrocuted it would surely be dead. I finished off the seagull as it had broken wings. It was a herring gull. Quote Link to post
The one 8,512
In this warm weather it might have beem sammonella and not electrocuted that did it in ? Quote Link to post

I've had several close encounters with the feckers due to being in the building trade, and working on roofs where the feckers nest. When my daughter was smaller, we were on the beach, and the dirty b'stards flocked to her and took a sandwich out of her hand, she was only about 10ft away from us. They've been protected for so long, they've lost their fear of humans. The tourists don't help, feeding the feckers in the pub beer gardens, etc. It's a novelty to have one of the great fecking things sat on the picnic tables in front of them, feeding off scraps that they give them. Different story when they start to flock and then get aggressive and start flapping & squawking at the stupid dickheads, and nicking the food of their plates. I've even seen one family of particularly stupid tourists, sitting on one of the town benches feeding the feckers chips, saying to one of their kids, 'Ow, that's right love, give the ducks a chip!' Work that one out?! The only good seagull is a dead seagull IMO. Quote Link to post
scothunter 12,609
It most probebly was not electrocuted mate as it would of been dead when it hit the floor..what will of happened is it has crashed into the power line as i have seen it happen first hand..I have also found a lot of dead pigeon's and swan's under power lines that they have collided with.. Millet Cheers i actually never saw it until it i heard it fluttering and spinning down. Quote Link to post
