my father was employed in a power station for 32 years,they hadnt a clue what danger was around them.one of his work mates told me they even made footballs with asbestos and sticky tape and had a kick around on lunch break,the pipes were lagged with it all around them.The blokes lagging the pipes never wore masks as they had no idea of the dangers of the stuff.imagine 30+years of breathing in the dust and no idea of the harm it was doing.

I wonder what other dangers will emerge over the coming years, I bet theres a great many things in our life we see as "innocent" when really they are a disaster waiting to happen.

Asbestos causes three main carcinomas (cancer) that is nasal / osophigal carcinoma, lung cancer (same as fags) and mesothelioma (only assi causes that one) it kills more people a year than car wrecks!!!

 

Any person working in construction of any sort, builder, plumber, sparks, chippy etc etc should have undertaken an asbestos awareness course, its been law since 2006.

 

as for the shaving, all respirators leak, the face fit ensures that the respirator is at least % effective, this combined with work place exposure limits and air flow ensures that the air within an asbestos removal area is relatively clean before it goes through the respirator and once it does the air you breath is often cleaner than the air in a london underground station.

 

Clean shaven is a requirement within the code of practice unless there is a medical reason for the stubbel (scoriasis or ecxma) so the removal of operatives for not being clean shaven is in their own interest.

some of the placea i have to go to work we have H2S gas risk present and if its in the right concentration you can breathe in and drop on the fecking spot!!!!
