dogs-n-natives 1,182
I have a question to the folks that have experience with the pure bred Sealyhams. Looking through the internet at a punch of pictures, it appears to me that the present day Sealyham terrier is a stockier, bigger dog then the original. Whats your experience with the present day sealyhams in regards to their current size and temperment? 99.9% of sealyhams about today are bred for pet/show. And yes, they are fecking huge! They also look rediculous, with there over long coats. Working sealyhams, the few that are still about.... are pretty much like they always were, big variations in size, some of the bigger dogs were always broad heavey dogs, but some (esp. bitches) are a neat compact size. samba 534
yes mine come from a bloodline in north east mr thompson and richardson J thompson no longer keeps or works sealyams, as under his own admission the gene pool was to small & he lost a lot of the gameness over the years . Although he has said he still wishes he had them & knew more about line breeding when he was younger . THE BITCH IVE GOT IS A RESULT OF A BROTHERXSISTER MATING Quote Link to post

night_hunter 0
Is your dog a first cross russel sealyham, or just a rough sealyhamish looking russel? Got any pics of him? Do you know about his breeding? DnN hes a sealyhamish looking russell but hes about 12 now people who see him say hes an old time sealyham russell i dont no about hes breeding but i do no that hes been a belting working terrier hes not the smartest looking dog but he can work Alot of the sealyhams seen about seem to bare more resemblance to the russel or lucas types. I know of some real sealyhams in the norh east, there breeding programs are very well thought out , and as your dogs breeding isnt known, and he is too old to be given a fair working trial, im affraid i cant help you. All the bestthe dog is 12 now and hell do any trail now hes old but can still do the job im getting working russell bitch to line to him thanks Quote Link to post

The AKC standard says they should be 23lb to 24lb. That doesn't take into account that a lot of show dogs are a few lb bigger then the standard. Its conceivable that a lot of sealyhams are 25lb to 27lb. THats bording draw dog status in size and structure, not a hole dog. Quote Link to post
