Guest bigredbusa
he was saying the round is designed not to kill but say if you got shot in the leg it doesnt mean it would come out the other side but could come out anywhere . sounds pretty mental if you ask me . Quote Link to post
andy s410c 61
The SA80 would probalies jam every other shot they did when i used them in the 90,s.. Quote Link to post

That's right, I've been told that by a few of my family members that have served in the forces. They are designed to ricochet around the body & do as much damage as possible. It could hit you in the thigh, then bounce around off of a few bones, then exit through your shoulder! No good for hunting, unless you like your meat ready minced! Quote Link to post
gilly-93 31
wouldent want to be hit with a sa80 then Quote Link to post
Grim Reaper 1
The SA80 would probalies jam every other shot they did when i used them in the 90,s.. Can honestly say i never had that problem with the L1A1 7.62 SLR - bloody good rifle, that! I am glad to say that i left before they adopted the SA80 - otherwise known as 'the plastic spastic' by us old school types! All the best, Grim. Quote Link to post
andy s410c 61
The SLR had just been decomissioned when i joined up,never got to fire one,a proper man stopper up to 1200yds i believe?? Quote Link to post
Grim Reaper 1
The SLR had just been decomissioned when i joined up,never got to fire one,a proper man stopper up to 1200yds i believe?? Yeah, indeed it was! If I remember correctly, with the on-board 'opens', it was effective out to 600 yards? with a scope on, it was then effective out to about 1100-1200 yards. I was very very nearly tempted to buy the 'old spec' de-ac (fully strippable and all moving parts) FN Fal L1A1 SLR i was recently offered, but not sure the wife would have appreciated it though! Pity really that. Regards, Grim. Edited August 2, 2008 by Grim Reaper Quote Link to post
droid 11
Bit off-topic, but I was under the impression that a wounded enemy combatant was better than a dead one, because some bugger had to do something about a wounded man, raher than just leaving the body till later. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
I'm a little intrigued about the 5.56 bullet bouncing all around the body and coming out wherever! This is news to me but I would be pleased if someone could explain it. The standard issue SA80 round for the UK military is a Radway Green 62g FMJ. It conforms to the Geneva Convention. It is also nowhere near as good a round (manufacturing, accuracy, build quality, consistancy) as the old Radway Green 7.62. RG has been part of BAE systems for some time now and there is more than a suggestion that they want to get out of ammo production!!! I have used the RG5.56 (and hundreds of the RG7.62) which is essentially a High Pressure .223, the effect on rabbits is terminal, although limited, as it is FMJ, it can often go right through and leave bunny virtually unmarked and fully in tact. Hit bunny with a HP or SP .223 and bunny will tend to be a bit of a mess!! Edited August 2, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post

That's how I'd been schooled too. A dead soldier lies on the ground, collected when everything has finished. A wounded soldier screams in agony, demoralising his comrades and requiring two men to carry him away from the battle field. Doesn't the 5.56 round tumble as a product of it's design, when fired from assault rifles? Quote Link to post

My brother, three cousins & a mate were all told it. Whether or not it's propaganda, I don't know. Quote Link to post
