hi im new too this site and just read your "help" iv had fererts in the past that iv had the same problem with wat i did and it worked was too buy some ferret vitamins (in a bottle) and give them a bit through the bars in the cage just for a couple of days the try putting some on the end of your finger (if you feel you are ready) and let them know that if they stop they get their sweet if not get rid!!!!! before its too late

might not work but all you can do is try good luck

I think anyone who breeds ferrets & then homes the excess stock should ensure the kits are

fed correctly (flesh)

handled as much as humanly possible by as many people as possible

exposed to as much stimuli as possible, so by the time there roughly 8 to 10 weeks old there bomb proof

Then when there new prospective owners view the kits prior to taking them on they should be given a comprehensive run down of feeding ragime & if the breeder thinks they will dither about after getting the kit/s home then they dont take one

New owners have to be aware kits do bite , especiallypeople new to kits just like pups do , understanding a play bite & differentiating between that & a fear bite only comes with experience, its a catch 22 situation the ferret bites , therefore your reluctent to handle, no handling means no food usually, if the feedings spot on the rest should follow suite

All you view's on rehoming kitts are fine but what happens when there passed on from where you rehomed them and it can and does happen

Totally agree no amount of homechecking & follow up checks guarantees the animal is going to be looked after, peoples circs change , they move so unless you all live toegther then how can you possibly know whats going on

All anyone can do when homing ferrets is go with your initial gut reaction & common sence

Well well well, there has been some fierce debate on here while i've been away. Can't leave you lot for fivemins can i lol.

Anyway back to the matter in hand, to be honest with you I was going to shoot them then thought it would be best to get some help for experienced owners. A quick update would be this:

Pip:

She has stopped biting all together gentle flicks on the nose has worked on her she is calm yet confident with me now.

Jazz:

She has 90% stopped got a little bit fiery tonight and excited after about half an hour of hadling I think she got bored. Flicking her nose or the knuckle in the mouth doesn't work with her it makes her worse. The thing that stops her dead in her tracks is I hiss really loudly next to her ear, it had calmed her down and like I say stopped her biting/nipping 90% of the time.

Thank you to everyone for the input and help it's been much appreciated if I see any of you at game fairs etc I'll buy you a pint.

As for WILF you are entitled to your opinion the same as everyone else, which i would agree with but i've grown attached to the buggers shouldn't really cause apart from the dog haven't done with any animal before.

Just a point if I may you mentioned ugly foals in one post altough this was an example to strentgh your view and it does happen, but a good looking foal will not let you ride it you can't jump on it's back and expect dressage from it but the owners don't cull and start again.

Any way thanks again and play nice
