Did anyone ever go or knew someone who went to the trials

i was reading an article from david harcombe and he said he had been to the trials in ireland many moons ago and they where nothing like that the press had written about them.

 

now i know very little about them but does anyone knew of anyone who went or is there a line of dog that was used then that is still about today .

 

the article i read had glyn thomas using sealyhams etc..

 

would love to hear some stories about them

i frequented the trials as a young lad,so many years ago i cant remember too much of it nowdays.there was some buzz on the days though,probably to do with age.i have a cert here somewhere from then.Plenty of different working dogs then.

THE FLYNN STRAIN WAS ABOUT BACK THEN, THERE WERE TOP CLASS STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS, THERE WAS A GUY BACK THEN CALLED " HEGARTY" MY MATE " MARTIN" HIS DAUGHTER IS GOING OUT WITH " HEGARTYS" SON AT THE MOMENT ( SMALL WORLD) HE BRED " THE GREAT GERONIMO" MR. HEGARTY PAST ON OLD PHOTOS OF HIS DOGS AT THE TRIALS A FEW MONTHS AGO TO ME, THERE RARE RARE PHOTOS !! THESE PHOTOS WILL APPEAR IN A BOOK SOME DAY AS WELL AS OLD PHOTOS OF LADS DIGGING FOR THE TRIALS ONCE THE LEGAL SIDE OF THINGS ARE CLEARED UP AND PERMISSION TO USE THE PHOTOS ARE GIVEN.

I recall a post of yours on another site, about a dig with a dog (called Butch I think?). It was a great read, heart in the mouth stuff.
