Use of a Pistol While Hunting

Hey just wanting to know how many of you use a pistol while hunting?

 

I dont mean for primary use but for dispatching?

 

Do any of you consider it a compulsary bit of equipment?

do you mean to finish injured quarry off. if so . nah .. if i shoot it with the rifle and it aint dead i'l either stick another slug in it . neck it or stand on it. them pistol's are not much use for shootin live quarry with. you would be better off hitting summat over the head with it as opposed to shooting it with it..

no dave imo they are not needed. i have heard no one carrying one for finishing off . just use the rifle you shot it with. , your hand's or a stick. . best. lee...

My mate used to take a webley tempest out with him for finishing off, but apart from that I don't know anyone else.

my dads got a hw 45 but he doesnt really use it for hunting apart from trapped rats

I always used a 'Priest' comprising a length of copper tube lead filled at one end for both fishing and hunting.

personally i would just reload the rifle, but at point blank range a pistol will kill it!.....you only need 3ft ILB (i think) to get to the organs or the brain. there have been stories of people being killed after being shot in the head with air pistols!

 

But you really want to make sure of clean kill though!
