Looking at a couple of my reference books relating to the .223, I see that your load is about half way to the max for a 55g which is fine - more powder = more velocity but does not always mean more accuracy

With due respect, your rifle at 120 yds is capable of producing sub 1" quite easily.

Not many years ago I was under the impression that it was necessary to seat the bullet within a few thou of the lands. I took on a Blaser in 22.250 using 55g Nosler and with this idea of keeping near the lands, I had quite a job getting any reasonable groups.

I therefore shortened the length of the cartridge overall length so that the ogive measurement sat 137th off the lands and was quite surprised what I was able to achieve in an ordinary hunting rifle being shot by an old codger- a 5 shot group at .416 ins ! See

My .17 Rem is currently shooting 125th back off the lands and is constantly shooting sub .3 ins at 100 yards and just under 1 in at 200 yards. But being the anorak I am I am still playing with it to improve it still further.

If you are considering using another powder have a look at Steves Reloading Pages - he seems to have shot just about every calibre known to man

In fact his web site is well worth a read - a very informed guy.
