fallow & sika

Recommended Posts

Most Fallow are park deer up here. That being the case I have never run a dog on them pre-ban, but from what I saw of them they are not too shoddy at covering the ground, the does seem to watch over their fawns pretty well. May ESS got the fright of its life when it when it tried to take up on a fawn.

The Sitka we have running wild up here are fiesty sods.

like sheep  .fallow deer are a hard job for the strongest of luchers they are far from easy iv seen courses go throught drains over fances and brust through cover on the worst of bogy ground and when your dog pulls them they can kick like f**k.your dog has to know his job and how to hold them till you get there to dispatch them.not every lucher will stick at it.

killed roe fallow and sika munties red hinds and for me the sika in woodland were good sport fallow were spun over with big greyhoundy dogs three qaurter and a half cross out of tor of dartmoor but realy when your doing something thtas not legal and for cion i want it done quickly roe are the best you can sling one over the shoulder easy, a big falow buch with a pair of well schooled dogs like the type i had for years were well on it same with sika but then the fun began dragging it etc give me a quick shine two or three burls hees down good nite on to the next , these bit contests are a bit piontless unles getting well paid as the dogs get bruised all the best

You either live by very tame deer or very nasty sheep

:hmm: Well you've been more fortunate than me matey peeps....

I've harvested several hundred deer,..mostly Roe,..but the Sika and Fallow have also been profitable

These larger species of deer CAN be taken quite efficiently ,..sometimes...

However,.the realy big Stags can turn a 'quick earner' into a wrestling match, and personaly, I used to avoid running them.. It is not a case of them being too difficult to take or anything like that,..but more to do with economics... :boogie:

I've never actualy killed a deer just for sport,..for me it was ALWAYS for the gold dubloons....

All the best,..CHALKWARREN... :drink:

you see, we have very tame deer, they stand 50yards looking at you then they decide once youve slipped the dogs to run. On the small fields down this way they quite quickly hit a hedge, as they go through the runs one by one you can almost gaurentee a catch with any half tidy dog.

All the people saying im wrong, have you ever ran fallow near plymouth, here they are fed in the gardens no fear at all. last night we saw 4 bucks in a gateway they stood and watched us, they then after 5 minutes or saw of us admiring them just walked on and started grazing 20yards away.

well why dont you catch a nice big buck take a photo and then release it to show every one how easy it is
