Recommended Posts

A guy who owns horse stables near me has given me permission to hunt the rabbits on his parks. However in order to get the permission he wants the rats killed from his stables. Now the thing is i have never hunted rats and to be perfectly honest they make m,y skin crawl. My grandad who i never met died of weils dunno if hearing the stories made me not wanna go near em.Anyway to get the hunting i'm prepared to bite the bullet.I have spring traps and a good air rifle any tips would be greatly appreciated :victory: Poison isnt an option the guys to scared his horses fall ill.

i shoot loadsa rat's. with the air rifle best bait to use is oxtail or chicken soup [ the rats have to stay still to lap it up giving you plenty o time to get a bead on em] if there is a fair few rat's you will see there run's ect bait 2 or so with soup go back 25 yard's sit down get comfy in one skip yard i shoot i have on old fold up work bench which i use as a rest for the gun :gunsmilie: i sit on a deck chair and wait the rat's will come to the soup as soon as they start lappin up and are still i shoot em in the nappa. it is best to head shot em as most body shot rat's will not drop on the spot but will get back in to there set and die outa sight this tend's to spook other rat's. so head shot's only every rat you kill need's moving also as they dont like coming to bait that has half a dozen of it mates lying dead next to it. to move a dead rat i use a stick and spade .just use the stick to push the rat on the spade and move it. usually there will be puddles of blood on the ground near the bait were you shot the rats. i sprinkle a bit of earth over the blood as well to help not spook other rat's. 1 have regularly shot 20 plus rat's in one session. doing this. :gunsmilie: oh yeah sorry to go on a bit. ha ha.
